How to choose

Okay, I:m in Japan, Akihabara specifically. I've got a lot of leftover yen because many of my Japanese friends treated me to meals unexpectedly. Now, me and my girlfriend are getting into BDSM stuff, but mostly pretty light. Only stuff we have right now is manacles, and I picked up a egg vibrator from Don Quixotes already since they were only 800 yen. Now, in Akihabara, they have a pretty neat sex shop, with a lot of costumes and some interesting looking stuff. But my girlfriend isn:t here with me in Japan, and so I can't get her opinions. What I'd like to pick out is one of those leather strap things that goes all over a women's body (similar to the Japanese rope bondage, but with leather) and a remote control vibrator. How should I select these, and how much should I be expecting to pay? Links to good quality store sites would also be appreciated, as I'm leaving Japan tommrow.

Unless you know her size really well and/or it's highly adjustable, I'd choose something else. From a quick google search of 'bdsm leather body harness' it looks like they retail for $100-200 here, with the average being about $150. However, leather/fetish stuff is often extraordinarily expensive here.

Japanese Rabbit Vibes are supposedly the best, and it's difficult to get real ones at a reasonable price here, so you might look at those, too. There are also some cool silicone sleeves and such for men. And gloves with a vibe in each finger!

Another option would be sensation toys - soft/fur mitts, floggers (go for wider falls, softer materials like suede and heavier toys for a thuddy, massaging effect; you can always pull some of the falls back for some sting), etc.

If pure silicone, pyrex or stainless steel toys are less expensive there (you can expect to pay $70-100 for a silicone dildo here), those would likely be a good investment.

Make sure you take the batteries out of any toys before they go in your luggage!

Hey, I may go to Tokyo soon...where in Akihabara is that shop? I've been there many times, but the last time was about 3 years ago...
