How to... clean a laptop screen.

This screen is hella dirty! What do you use to clean your laptop screen? Or any screen for that matter?

I prefer to use my tongue to clean nearly everything, dishes, floors, myself.

I've always used windex. I've had people tell me I shouldn't, but I've even cleaned them when the screen is on without any problems.

Windex will be ok, just don't spray it directly on the screen, spray on a paper towel.

They also sell screen cleaner at walmart, best buy ect. They look like baby wipes but are meant for a computer screen, key board etc.

Why do they say to not do this? I always do and never had any problems. I've been told I shouldn't spray it on the screen but nobody knows why. Can someone enlighten me?

They say not to spray windex, water or anything directly on the monitor because their is a chance the liquid could get inside the monitor through the airvents (on regular monitors) or speaker vents or smaller air vents on flat monitors.

If this happens you could possibly short out the monitor.

That would make sense. I've never had a problem doing it. But then again, I don't exactly go overboard spraying the TV or monitor with windex. It's definitely not a job for the garden hose. Thanks.

Go to Wal-Mart and get anti-static screen wipes. They come in bottles of 80, and can be found on the computer isle in the electronics section. Mine have lasted for a LONG time, and only cost about $4.00.

When cleaning a laptop screen (by which I assume you mean an LCD display), you must be VERY, VERY CAREFUL. The "screen" on most LCD laptops is nothing more than a thick fabric-like material, unlike the glass screens on standard monitors. If you apply too much pressure, you could end up tearing a hole in the screen, utterly destroying it.

When cleaning a laptop LCD, I find it best to simply use a soft, clean, damp CLOTH rag (NOT a paper towel...they're too coarse). Wet it, wring out as much water as you can, then wipe softly but firmly on the screen to remove all the smudges and such.

Also, it's a good idea to NOT use any sort of chemicals on an LCD...there's no telling how they might react with the material of the screen. As I said, a damp cloth does the job just fine.

Whenever you aren't using your laptop, keep it closed up...this will help prevent dust from accumulating on the screen.

Above all, remember to clean it on a regular basis...you don't want someone catching an STD from your dirty laptop, now do you?
