hi, so this is my first post. i've been lurking for a little while, but not long. my girlfriend, and soon to be fiance, are looking into making some homemade movies. but we would like to be able to do full body shots. we would also like to be able to edit it a bunch.

if by chance we decide to post it on the internet, and because a friend of mine who posts here as kirin i believe, does post videos- we are trying to find a way to blur out the faces the girls for privacy.

anything would be wonderful, but freeware would be even more wonderful :)

thanks in advance for anything you know.

sadly I can't help much with freeware. Windows XP has moviemaker, but since I have obtained copies of Adobe Premeire and AfterEffects, I never bothered with the 'easy stuff'.

Make sure you have plenty of hard disk space available. You can easily work up to gigabytes worth of space doing all the editing before the final render is exported.

I found that by the time I got done editing the video we made, I was tired of looking at the footage.

However years later, its fun to watch again.

(and no, I'm not posting it)

AfterEffects is great and works with most other editing programs. It lets you do special effects, text, titles, and could easily blur faces out.

FYI, if you have any tattoos, you should blur those out, as they can give away your annonymity :)

If you haven't already, think it over, before committing to making a video of this nature. It could turn out to be a positive, but has the potential to be very negative. Enough said about that.

I have some video editing experience. Unfortunately, I have only used Adobe Premier Pro (top of the line and very expensive). It will do tons of effects including the one you described...although it may become much more complicated than you might anticipate. Editing video is time consuming and requires a ton of computing power (I use a 64 bit Athlon processor with 4gb of ram). I'm not trying to scare you away, just give you the harsh reality of what you are thinking about undertaking.

As for shooting the video (and it depends on what you would like the final quality to look like) you could use anything between digital 8 and HDTV Widescreen video cameras. It will be very hard to video you and your mate with the camera mounted on a tripod (what makes a video interesting is the ability to cut multiple camera angles together into a single piece of tape or dvd). Are you thinking about using another person to operate the camera???

Think it over before you do anything. If I can find any freeware that might work for you I will let you know.

Just so you know, there are *cough* ways of obtaining editing software...
It's perfectly legal so long as you privately negotiate a lisence with the developers. Otherwise it would be considered illegal. And you don't want to steal software...

But yes, Premiere, Final Cut, After Effects, Combustion, and Avid are all top of the line editors/compositors, and can do everything you want plus much more.
