How To Order Your Free XP2 CD

So far I have read almost nothing but horror stories about this. Or am I confusing two different things?

i got mine free on the windows update site. it does change the computer around alot. plus i havent had alot of hangups either.

No that is typical Microsoft mode of operation.

I ordered the CD because when I fuck up my computer when I install it I can ghost my hard drive back into working order and don't have to download it again. :D

The truth is from what I can find out with the programs that I have on my computer I only stand a 25% chance of a total melt down.

about the same as I have done with wives.

Hence the backing up of my hard drive.;)

on the wives part can you back up your other hard drive? lol.

Based on your estimate of a 25% chance of a total melt down, I wonder if it's worth it. What's this update all about anyway? Is it yet another massive fix to security weaknesses or is it an improvement to the operating system? Is there a difference between the upgrade/update (whatever it is) for XP Pro vs. XP Home?

25% chance is based on this link,

and my talent for not being able to follow simple instructions!

I'll post a link to what XP2 is supposed to do.

Abstract
In Windows XP Service Pack 2, Microsoft is introducing a set of security technologies that will help to improve the ability of computers running Windows XP to withstand malicious attacks, especially those from viruses and worms. The technologies include these improvements:

• Network protection

• Memory protection

• E-mail handling

• Web browsing security

• Computer maintenance

Together, these security technologies will help to make it more difficult to attack Windows XP, even if the latest updates are not applied.

In addition, this service pack also includes updates designed to improve the performance and stability of several Windows features.

I have Windows ME. am I really behind the times too? Would I benefit from ordering this or not

I have searched Microsoft and the Internet and can find no mention of windows me and sp2.

It looks like Windows 2000 and up is all that Microsoft is concerned about.

Click on Windows Update

While you are logged on to the internet from the ME PC, click on Windows Updates or go to the Microsoft.com site and click there.
It will check your system and ONLY select the updates that are needed for that system. (If if comes up with it, you don't have to download or install it. Skip it and go to the site they list for more details.

Thanks, fgarvb1, I ordered mine. No way I'm downloading a 10 hour download here!
