how to post pics ?

can somone please tell me how to post pics ? ive downloaded using the manage attachments but they dont download to the page tried dragging and dropping them in that doesnt work.not sure how to do this never messed around in this forum much until lately.can somone just run through it step by step please ?

also how do you reduce the resoulution so you can use a pic in your profile ?when i try to add there is says the file is more that 250x250.

any help would be greatly appreciated

if you're trying to post a pic inside your post, just click the little yellow square that looks like a picture above the post box, and then put the web address for the pic in the pop-up that appears. It formats it for you.

To attach a picture, you click "manage attachments" under the post box, and it'll direct you from there to browse for the pic on your PC.

You can use any photo editing software to reduce the size to scale of your profile pic - GIMP is a good one, also free.

You'll have to upload your pics to a "hosting service."

If you have G-rated pics only, you can signup for a free account at Photobucket.

If you have adult images of any kind (nudity, bondage, etc.), you need a host that specifically allows them. Some that are free include Imagevenue, PixCastle and HideBehind. Each will give you the required codes to use.

The attached image is what I see when I click on the browse button in the manage attachment's page. I have to select an image file from those listed and then click the upload button to transfer it to Literotica's attachment database -- the browse/upload function works the same for avatars and profile pictures.

I don't know of any way to drag and drop images into that page because it's entirely text based.

Also, note that attachments show as links and do NOT automaically display the image as some vBullein based sites do; Li has i configurd ha way because Li has so many more attachments than a typical vBulletin based forum has and displaying all of the attachments on a page every time the page is requested slows the site down horribly.

The IMG tags require a web-based image to disply with an unambiguuous direc URL to he image file -- in oher words, NO, you can't use it for images on your computer. Images on your computer have to be uploaded as attachments.

As Cloudy said, almost any image editing program can resize an image. The main trick is to make sure you configure it to show image dimensions in PIXELS so you don't have to deal with multiplying out the image dimensions in inches/cms by the resolution to determine the dimensions in Pixels.

(250x250 at Photoshop's default resolution of 72 DPI is 3.472 inches x 3.472 inches -- it's much easier to just go to preferences and change UNITS to pixels.)

Below the "Reply to Thread" box is another box that says "Additional Options", within this box is "Manage Attachments", click browse and it brings up your hard drive. Find the pic on the hard drive, double click it, and it gets added to the reply.

I do see what you mean though, the image doesn't show, just the link. The other problem with uploads from the hard drive is that the images won't be inline with the message, they'll show up at the bottom, and if there is a chronological order, you have to post them in reverse to get them to show properly.

heres step by step for anyone that was in the same boat i was and didnt know how to post pics from your computer.Some people tried to help just didnt give enough detail for me to undertsand .so ill do that here.weird harold is right they have to be loaded as atachments but heres all you need to do

1. hit the reply in whatever thread your in.

2.Go to the bottom of page and click manage atachments.

3 click browse and find your pic on your hard drive.

4.select pic and hit upload.(ive atached 5 at once not sure what the limit is if there is one) 5 on one page but you have to upload them one at a time.

after this i couldnt figure out where the image was going after i uplaoded it. or if i could close the window after uploading. #5 tells you where pic is.

5.it should appear under the browse bar and will push down the close window option.(you can close it. the upload should be shown over the manage atachments button you started with)

6.here's somthing important -- click the submit button under the aditional options not the one under the text part of the post or it wont add it.


thats all there is to it.its very simple.but very frustrating if you have to keep screwing around trying to post to see if it works or not.

the irfanview picture editor worked out great for me yang.quick and easy to use thanks again

oh and if you need somthing to reduce your pic size yang turned me onto this just search ----irfanview picture-----.and dowload that.its easy to use for people not experienced with photo editing as i am.

if you are experienced then you wont need any of this anyway.

Um, your quickest route actually would have been to read the FAQs Before Posting sticky in the first place, as there are detailed instructions on inserting pics in posts AND posting attachments under "How do I insert a pic into a post, instead of posting it as an attachment?" The sticky threads at the top of each forum are there to save you time and improve your understanding of how the forum works.

To be fair, it wasn't very clear whether you were trying to figure out how to insert a pic directly into a post, or add one from your computer as an attachment until several posts into this thread.

The responses you get will be a lot more clear if you ask clear, concise questions. It's also not helpful to criticize the advice you're given just because you don't understand it. If you're confused, you should ask clear questions to try to gain a better understanding and give more information in ways people are likely to understand (and, yes, that usually means proofreading your posts).

I just read the thread that started this argument between you two, and can't figure out which member you believe you were joking with in it. It seems to me that you're making up this whole thing about Cloudy being jealous because you were talking to someone she likes.

Your insults are simply ridiculous and uncalled for. As is the case in most of the other forums here, they're not going to go over well in HT either. I'm sure I'm not the only one who will remember you have a tendency to go off on people for no apparent reason and be less likely to interact with you in the future.

Perhaps the real problem is that, unlike Cloudy and many others, you don't spend enough time here to understand the personalities of the regulars and dynamics of each board, so you make wild ASSumptions and take things the wrong way. Or, maybe you're just an angry person who doesn't communicate very well. Either way, I'd suggest either trying to get a better understanding of each forum and the community as a whole, or sticking to forums such as the General Board and AmPics.
