i know this may sound stupid, but how in the heck do you make these things go away? I accidentally recieved one of these during some intende lovemaking with a girlfriend,,,,and the following day now im trying to get it off.... if anyone has any home remedies for these... please share.

There's really not that much you can do... a hickie is just broken blood vessels under the skin and there's no real way to make them unbroken. Like Ezzy said Time is the only thing that can make the body reabsorb the blood, and heal the damage...

If you catch it soon enough you can put something cold on it to constrict the blood vessels. This will not keep you from getting one, but it might help it not look as bad.

Once you have one though... put on some make up or bust out the turtle neck.

A hickey just has to have time to disappear, a hickey here and a hickey there.

I've never tried it, but some have suggested applying the herb arnica helps. It's worth checking into at least. :)

Just a thought, as I've never tried it, but perhaps applying some eyedrops meant to reduce redness?

The active ingredient in those constricts blood vessels a little. I actually thought of it because a long time ago, I was told it was an effective way to minimize the appearance of facial acne for a short time. It isn't permanent, but it'd get one through a date or important engagement without feeling too self-concious. I've used this trick lots of times, and if it works for pimples, it might just work to at least minimize the appearance of a hickey.

Just drip the eyedrops onto a Q-tip or cotton ball, and swab liberally over the affected area, wait 10 minutes or so, and apply again. I make no promises, but it seems like it might do something. :)

i've heard that you can take a bursh, one with little pointy things on it, and brush it out.
the logic being it disperses the blood under the skin faster...

i think all you can do is apply some base coat/foundation makeup to mask it.

that or leeches.

a hemorrhoid cream.

that's the exact solution.
these creams work to dissipate pooled blood from the skin, and if you use them several times a day, you should see a vast improvement in just 24 hours.

Do most of you even know what a hickie is? Not much is going to heal that except time, just leave it alone.

as a teenager, some of my girlfriends swore by toothpaste - but I really don't see how that could help. You could try it, I guess.

Most here are fairly intelligent and well-versed in these types of things. Even those that aren't can usually figure out how to use Google to find out.

I've never tried toothpaste, but it's likely the abrasive in it combined with rubbing that works to disperse the blood at the surface. Some also say rubbing with a toothbrush (or other object) helps, but it should be noted that you need to use a NEW toothbrush (though I suppose soaking an older one in rubbing alcohol for awhile would do) because abraiding the skin with an old one could allow oral bacteria in, and cause a major infection.

The menthol in many products may also work in combination with rubbing to increase blood flow and help it heal quicker. For that reason, some suggest using IcyHot or Vaporub. That's why many suggest icing it immediately after, and then using moist heat in the next few days.

There are tons of tips, and most ride on the priciples of increasing blood flow to disperse the blood at the surface. If anyone's interested, here are 156 tips (many are repeats though) that might hold some promise. :)

Arnica is wonderful for reducing bruises. It can be found in many eye creams. As with any bruise (because that's what it is) cold for the first 24 hours then heat. Heat will help break up the clotted blood and reduce dicoloration. If you're using concealer make-up use green to cover red/purple and lavender to cover yellows. Apply a skin-matching concealer over that and a transluceant poser to kill any shine.

Keep in mind the best way to conceal a hickey is put them where they can't be seen.

Well....

Make her blow directly on the same spot really hard...I mean she sucked to make it appear, why can't blowing on the same spot reverse the effect?!?!?!? JK

Highschool rumor was that if you took a shot glass or something with a small circum. of the same shape and rub the lip of the glass around the hickie, it would begin to disappear. I guess that is to disperse the blood, who knows. I am half black and the hickies on me really didn't show but my girlfriend at the time was very aware of them.

All else fails I say leaches covered in hemorroid cream. Lather that evil slug up and let it go at ya!!

That's our rule. :D I bruise at the drop of a hat and have learned how little it takes over the years. When I start squealing, "Don't hickey me!!!" he either eases up or moves to a more suckable area.

I usually just call local law enforcement. They clear 'em out fast.

Just like on 'Cops'.

No, dear, that's "hick", not "hickie".

Throwing a beer across the road makes those go away. :p

*slaps own hand and wanders off to be mean somewhere else*

:: and just in case someone's going to get touchy, I was raised in backwoods MA -- I qualify as a hick of the highest degree! ::

The only way I've figured out is to wait. Usually it takes about four or so days for them to fade until they are almost unnoticeable. Trust me, I've had lots of opportunities to watch the healing process in the last few months. But hey, YMMV.

Thats what we used when I was at school!

It never worked, and to make things worse at some point your mum or dad rubs your neck whilst saying 'Oh you have toothpaste on your neck.....' Then your grounded and then hickies become the least of your problems!!

On a serious note Arnica or hemorrhoid cream, helps the healing process, but time is really the best way.

This one time, at band camp...

Never had this problem myself, but I remember in High School that I watched a girl rub a hickie away with the end of a lipstick container. Just sort of pushed the blood away, I guess. I don't know that I would believe it if I hadn't witnessed it with my own eyes.
