How to view images in Mozilla?

Recently I started using Mozilla as my primary web browser and I'm quite happy with it.

My only real complaint is that I have to go through a multi-step process to view images that Lit posters have attached to their posts. I've searched through the preferences options and can't find any setting to change that would make a difference. What I'd like is for the images to open automatically when I click on the file name. Instead I get a blank window and a pop-up that gives me options for opening the file and then the image opens up in yet a third window. Surely there's a way to get these images to open in a single new window without having to go through these other steps.

Do I have to install a plug-in for this? If so, what one do experienced Mozilla users recommend? Thanks.

if anyone figures that one out you'll have my infinite thanks as well.

Its strange because it works fine on some vbb boards but not on others. Maybe its a version issue?

are you using the firefox browser or the mozilla suite?

there's a plugin you can get but i can't remember if it's available on mozilla.org or if it was a 3rd party product... it came up in another thread somewhere. if i find it i'll direct you and bump it.

if you want to look for it, i THINK it was sheath's thread regarding her quest for a new browser... someone pointed this issue out and gave the fix.

Nope, it's probably not a version issue it's a configuration issue.

WhenLit frist changed tothe vBB software, attachments of images displayed automatically. Whenthe atachment database got really big that slowed the whole board down, so they changed the configuration to show all attachments as links.

That configuration causes some browsers to see the attachments as downloads instead of images.

And here I thought it was a problem I had to live with...thanks guys!

ReadyOne's link just confused me, but I did navigate my way to the extension page and downloaded IE View from http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=35 so I could view some sites easier.
When I restarted firefox and came to an image attachment, I right-clicked and selected Open Target in IE. I had to log into Lit again one time, but everything worked great after that. I'm sure it's not the easiest path, but it worked.

This is a known problem which I opened quite a while back. It did not get fixed in the last couple of releases.

Get the "User Agent Switcher" add in, and change your agent ID to IE before you look at the first URL that points to a pic.
Thanks for the suggestion.

What's interesting is that I have no trouble viewing images that are reachable by a URL; it's only those that are attached files that cause this problem.

This seems to me to be exactly the problem: Mozilla thinks I want to do a download any time I click on the link to an attached image file.

I just downloaded IE View based on SweetErika's suggestion and it works exactly as advertised.

Thanks.

I'm also using Mozilla and was wondering the same thing. It really is just annoying to have to close so many windows after you view a single image attachment.

Sorry Erika (and others)...

There are a couple of workarounds for this problem, both of which cause the image to be fetched by the browser exactly as IE does.

Using the "View IE" extension, you use IE itself to see the images. (and you get each in a new IE windows)

Using the "User Agent Switcher" extension, you make Mozilla/Firefox send the request as IE would send it, and the image is returned to and displayed by Mozilla/Firefox. This lets Firefox open the image in another tab.

Agent Switcher can be (permenently) set to always have Firefox format the request as IE would, however you will get a warning message each time Firefox starts. It can also be set at the start of each session for the duration of the session. Choose which hassle you prefer.

User Agent Switcher adds an option to the Tools menu; look there to choose your setting.

Note that right clicking an image link before you've changed the user agent to "Internet Explorer" (but not clicking on the menu displayed when you right clicked) will bind that link (only) to using the Mozilla agent. It may appear that User Agent isn't working (which it isn't for that particular link) but it will start working for subsequent links.
