I need some help.

I bought a digicam last week on eBay. I knew that it didn't come with the software disc, but figured I could just get it online.
No I couldn't.
I did, however, find the user's guide online. It said that XP users should only have to plug the USB cord in and it would recognize the camera.
No it doesn't.

I blew $50, didn't I?

Its a Toshiba PDR-2300. Pretty good camera- aside from the fact I can't get any of my pics off it.

Hi!

No, you didn't blow $50.00!!!

WinXP should recognize the camera.

Camera has to be turned on and windows should recognize it when you plug it in the usb port. Might try rebooting the computer with the camera on and already plugged in. The camera will "look" like another drive to WinXP.

You might want to check that all your usb ports are operational in the "device manager"...also, some usb devices do not play well together, if you have any other usb devices, power down and unplug them, reboot and then try plugging in the camera again in a port you know for sure works.

Also, If if you are positive the usb ports are working, there is a chance the camera's usb cable is bad, or there is a loose connecton at the camera. Make sure everything is tight and connected correctly.

If all else fails.

This camera uses an sd card, so if worse came to worse you could always get a sd card reader ($10-20) and just use the card reader to download pix from your sd cards that way. That is what I do, I seldom plug my camera directly into to the computer.

I have a feeling it may be the cord.
When I took it out of the box, it looked like the last owners let their cat use it as a chew toy. The camera's end is pretty chomped.

I just checked everything you suggested... So that narrows it down to getting a reader on Friday.
Thanks!

The damn little connectors on those cords will fail if you just look at them... I don't know how one could possably survive a cat chewing it up! lol!

Not sure either... but that lil bugger must've been having a ball nibbling on it.

Looks like I'm gonna be stopping at Walmart tomorrow. They've got a reader for $10.

How old (new) is your computer? The problem with the cord could also be the difference between USB and USB2.

Maybe you need drivers? Don't know... am not much of an expert but had similar problems and it was always a USB difference-thing or drivers (which I could ultimately download from the internet).

It's happy now. :cathappy:
Bought the card reader this afternoon, and once Luci figured out how to get it hooked up, we uploaded the pics from the card.
Worked fine!
I'm even more impressed with the cam- takes REALLY good pics!

...Yes, some will be going in my picthread soon.
