In the recent Hungarian election, the Hungarian people (members of the minor opposition parties who did not have a chance at deposing Orban, some decent members of Orban’s own party, and members of the MAIN - though imperfect - opposition party) created a temporary coalition with the singular goal / purpose of deposing Orban & his cabal (which they ALL recognized as a clear and present danger to their country and their European aspirations).

👍

Hungary's fractured opposition parties united by rallying around a common candidate, Péter Magyar, from the Tisza party, who focused on issues like corruption and public services. This coalition was crucial in mobilizing voters dissatisfied with Viktor Orbán's long-standing rule, leading to a significant electoral victory.

Unity of Opposition Parties

Hungary's opposition parties successfully united to challenge Viktor Orbán's long-standing rule in the 2026 parliamentary elections. This coalition was pivotal in mobilizing voters who were dissatisfied with Orbán's governance.

Key Factors in the Coalition

  • Common Candidate: The opposition rallied around Péter Magyar from the Tisza party, a former loyalist of Orbán. His candidacy represented a unified front against the ruling Fidesz party.
  • Focus on Core Issues: Magyar's campaign emphasized critical issues such as:
    • Corruption
    • Public services
    • Rising living costs

Mobilization of Voters

  • Dissatisfaction with Orbán: Many voters were frustrated with Orbán's authoritarian policies and the decline in democratic norms. The coalition effectively tapped into this sentiment.
  • Record Turnout: The election saw nearly 80% voter turnout, the highest in Hungary's post-Communist history, indicating strong public engagement and support for the opposition.

Election Outcome

The united opposition's strategy led to a significant electoral victory, with the Tisza party projected to win a substantial majority in parliament. This outcome marked a dramatic shift in Hungary's political landscape, ending Orbán's 16-year tenure.

😍

I truly believe there is a message for Americans in the actions of the Hungarian people and the united front created among the opposition parties who coalesced behind the strongest party to oust Orban & his cabal.

👍

I wonder if the Hungarian people learned from SOME Americans’ mistake (facilitating the election of DonOld & the MAGAt republicans) and were determined to avoid repeating it???

Some MAGA are waking up and may help us put more Democrats in office to get rid of Trump. Now if we can just convince the left to help too.

I consider myself to be “the left” - and my voting history and political views support my belief / contention.

I do NOT recognize "the left" that: VOTED FOR TRUMP & MAGA (See: Dearborn Michigan, etc), ignored 10/7, thinks the U.S. deserved 9/11 (Hasan Piker, etc), cares more about supporting the "Palestinians" who align with the brutal Iranian regime and back Hamas than Ukraine and other nascent democracies, lives in a fantasy world where the U.S. can simply / immediately do an economic and governmental 180 without collapsing the economy AND society (See also: MAGAts), and who believe the U.S. / capitalist west should cede the worlds resources and accompanying geopolitical power to the tender mercies of China & Russia, etc…

And I do NOT know how to convince "the left" (short of converting to Islam, assisting in genociding Israel, embracing my suppressed inner Luddite, and turning a blind eye to the greater atrocities being committed by major powers not named “the United States & Israel”.)

🤔 😳 😑 🤬

Dems getting primaried from the left is NOT gonna hurt the party's chances in the midterms.

Pubs getting primaried from the right, OTOH, DOES hurt their party's chances.
