"I hate these fucking things" Andrea thought to herself as she sipped her glass of wine in the booth of the local bar. Once a month her department would all go out after work for drinks and while it wasn't a requirement by any means it was definitely strongly encouraged. At only 28, she was the youngest manager within her department, so she felt the need to make sure she was playing her part and impressing the right people so she always attended any company event that was held. Her small 5'1" frame was not very intimidating and definitely didn't give the impression of power to her coworkers or her employees so throughout her life Andrea Carrollton had learned that she needed to be assertive when she needed something done. This of course tended to come off as "bitchy" as some of her ex boyfriends had informed her of over the years but she didn't care. This was the way she needed to be to get things done in life and so far it had worked out pretty well. Her employees weren't exactly fond of Ms. Carrollton's attitude however and often talked amongst themselves about what a bitch she was and how she seemed tense all the time. Her staff was made up of four people and all of them were men at least 10 years older or more, which only made Andrea more of a hardass at work in order to compensate for the extra testosterone within her department. The inside joke within the group of guys of course was that what she really needed was a good hard fuck to get her to relax a bit, but obviously none of them was going to say that to her face. Instead they kept their opinions to themselves with the exception of a few conversations at each other's desks when their whispers were a bit louder than they realized.
That's why she hated having to be stuck in a small, dive bar surrounded by these guys, pretending she cared about anything they were saying. They talked half the night about sports and the other about how hey could fix the economy if they were president. Andrea simply rolled her eyes and continued sipping her wine. She would venture around the bar to other tables and chit chat with some of the other folks from around the office but it always looked good when upper management would see her sitting with her team "building a rapport" as they often put it. She did her best to hide her annoyances with them but it was probably clear that she could care less about what they were talking about. They didn't care though; especially not Thomas.
Thomas Kincaid was one of Andrea Carrollton's direct reports. He had been working for the company nearly ten years when the supervisor position became available within his department and he assumed he was a lock for the job until senior management made the announcement that they had hired a new employee outside of the company to fill the role. From her first day Thomas had decided that he was going to make her life a living hell no matter what, but he was always nice to her face. Often he would find mistakes in her work and take it to managers above her head, hoping that pointing out her mistakes would serve to get her fired and replaced by himself. So far this wasn't working, and it had only made him even more frustrated around the office.
Tonight, as Thomas watched his bitch of a boss chewing on her fingernails as she sat at their table he had an idea.
"You know Andrea, it's not a very healthy habit to bite your nails."
Andrea looked at him, trying not to I snap at him for pointing out a bad habit in front of everyone. "I've been trying to quit smoking and I haven't had a cigarette all day. I've been chewing on my nails instead which isn't the best but it's better than the alternative." She responded
"You know, I dabble in hypnosis in my spare time. I actually helped two of my friends quite smoking that way. I could do the same for you if you want."
Hypnosis?! In he serious?! She thought to herself. Quitting has been hard though.... "Sure, why not?" She answered. What's the worst that could happen right?
"The only thing is, it has to be very quiet for this to work so we will have to wait until tomorrow at work and we can an do it in your office."
"Sure, whatever you say" she rolled her eyes, still very skeptical that hypnosis was even real, let along that one of her employee was capable of having a skill like that. The next day at work she would soon find out that Thomas was much more skilled in hypnosis than she thought.
