i am begining to believe that it is political at lit to post even towards the edgy...

The entire site leans hard left. Much more so than the general population, especially amongst males. Statistically there are far more liberal males than there ought to be. My working theory is there are some that are active, involved, thoughtful male posters who are liberal here and with their friends, co-workers and acquaintances.

I suspect a good 1/2 of the "progressive" voices piling on are simply a-political neophytes that just think that hippie chicks are easy, so they go to the peace rally in hopes of a nubile being impressed with his display of chest thumping.

This website will lean left based on its nature. This is a site that represents everything a neo-conservatives (tea party, right wing libertarians, famy value voters) hates: sexuality, gays, lesbians, freedom of speech, equality to gender, freedom for the LGBT community, strong willed women, an independent community and website that has no corporate sponsoring, etc etc etc...

Everything Rush Limpballs and the right rail against from their family value plateau. Other than being a hypocrit, why would a neo-con be on this site?

i cannot be entirely convinced that
being
and posting like
are indeed the same...

for,
being an asshole means
that you have no choice but to post like an asshole...
it is expected,
and like some infirmity...
provides a bit of dubious cover...

posting like an asshole,
at least to me
demonstrates either laziness
or malfeasance;
which both necessarily take unfair advantage
of the reader's goodwill.

posting like an asshole
is selfish
and usually is better served
either by a bit more attention to the milieu
tempered by a bit of work
or a reconsidered silence

I think there is some metaphysical point in there. I need to digest that for a bit.

I dunno, I am coming from stupid is as stupid does sort of thing. It quacks like an asshole it is a duck's asshole?

I think, in all candor, my posts at times lean to the condescending. Not my proudest attribute. Often my quick edits that sometimes make it in that one minute window, and sometimes don't come from when I have gone CAPITALS to make a FUCKING POINT and I go back and soften it to my point is: ________ using italics so that the "voice" comes through but slightly less tinged with asshole.

And either way, if someone is not in agreement with my point, and it rubbes against the grain of some deep seated catechism of theirs, it cannot help but be perceived as asshole-ish.

There are some rare poasters here that are gifted at expressing a difference of opinion or pointing out an error in fact in a way that is quite palatable to most. Roscoe, Bronzeage, CJH and Colonel Hogan I have seen engage in fairly spirited discussions with little rancor. You would be on the list if anyone understood you. ~smirk~

I have been meaning to ask you about your style.

It is distinct.

There is nothing that I can see that is not properly formed but for some reason my linear brain stumbles badly. I was talking to a nubile about that, when she made some comments to me about our exchange here. I had to admit that I don;t follow it all. I think it is because I tear off entire sentences at a time. I am not even what is known as a whole word reader, much less a phonics reader, I eat sentences at a time, and you tend to make me pause and think through the words.

Not a bad thing, mind you.

If I am reading you correctly (always open to interpretation, given your rather ....elliptical....way of writing), you want to criticize others for criticizing others. Rather sr71plt-ish, if you ask me.

A churlish man might think your commentary has more than a bit of a double standard, but hai, double standards ("rules for thee, not for me!") are the coin of the realm here.

Once again:

We aren't "cleaning up" the GB.

We have made a place for Political discussion because it appears to be a popular topic.

This is nothing new. In the past, we created a GLBT forum for the same reason.

You can discuss GLBT-related issues in the GLBT forum, OR on the General Board.

You can discuss Politically-related issues in the Political forum, OR on the General Board.

TO CLARIFY: We aren't moving Political threads out of the other forums into the Political board.

I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. :rose:
far be it for me to rock any boats....
there is very little here that is difficult to wrap the head around.

i really won't lose sleep over how things do/don't work.

I sincerely hope this thread continues, it's been a worthwhile and somewhat perspective changing read for me.

I don't often express opinions there...and never here before, because "what's the point?" is often how I'm left feeling. But I do greatly enjoy reading those of some of my favourite posters featured here. Favored not for any delusion of friendship, but for the diverse and complex flavour.

There's no doubt the creation of the Politics Forum coincided with the GB becoming Playground 2.0.

There's no doubt the creation of the Politics Forum coincided with the GB becoming Playground 2.0.

So what you're saying is that the serious posters all left the GB and went to the Politics Forum and turned the GB into a flufftastic waste of Playground 2.0 space?

Which would explain why Ish, Cap'n Dipshit, Eyer the Liar, and you spend the majority of, if not all of, your time there trying desperately to cling to your bitter sad views of the world rather than engage a differing point of view.

The Politics Forum, to you, must appear to be mostly dead I'm sure. Because, TADAAAAA!, You have anyone who dares point out the ignorance of 99% of your posts on ignore.

I voted with the side that said yes to a separate board for those who were willing to use it. I made it clear, that my wish was that no one should be forced to use this board. I am pleased to see political threads on the GB, today.

Funny, that you have mentioned tits. I have not posted my tits. Someone may have posted my tits, without me knowing about it. I post when something concerns me, angers me,
or pleases me. I start threads. If someone wants to post their charms, and get attention, that is their business (or pleasure.)

When I first put myself out onto the GB board, it was common to hear "Tits or Get The Fuck Out!" The phrase that voices the belief that the only worth a woman has, was her breasts. The belief paired with this phrase, distilled and concentrated (Shut the Fuck Up) is expressed in the question, "Are woman allowed to have an opinion ?" In years past, this phrase was tossed around jokingly-"Shut your dirty whore mouth, men are talking."Just tonight, the sentiment and question popped up, again, in the current blurt thread.

The sentiment of excluding women's opinions popped up, when Republican women rebelled against the Conservative action concerning reporting rape to the police, to enable a woman to get a "certficate" that would allow her to seek an abortion. The men had a reaction- "STFU, and vote the way we have told you to, along with the rest of us. You women are making trouble for us men, when we are trying to take funds away from women's health services and please our supporters by restricting abortion. It will not cause any difficulty for any of us men, so why should we care about what you have to say about it ?"

I do not dance on their reserved spots. They may return. They may have never left, for all I know.

I truly wish that there could be discussion among the different sides.
I glimpse flashes of the heart of what causes the sides to clash.

I am hoping there is a possibility beyond being a voice of the echo, of the side that I have chosen.

I am hoping to see what the answers from the other side of , might be.

A faint hope, yes. But, the hope is not dead.

Miles has difficulty distinguishing between his simpleminded opinions and these pesky things we often refer to as facts.

Do you mean to tell me, that the GB is not like a Slinky toy ?

Pressure is applied, and the spiral tightens, until a certain amount of tension forms. The tension reaches a peak, and the tension is released. The cycle repeats, and there is forward motion. The topography that the spiral rests on, is constantly shifting. The plates grind against each other, and the spiral is found to be resting on the side of a mountain. Lava fills the spaces in the mountain, and the spiral is tossed into the air, when a sudden eruption occurs.

What walks down stairs, alone or in pairs
and makes a slinkity sound?
A spring, a spring, a marvelous thing!
Everyone knows it's Slinky.
It's Slinky, it's Slinky,
It's fun, it's a wonderful toy.
It's Slinky, it's Slinky, it's fun,
It's a wonderful toy.
It's fun for a girl or a boy.

Original Lyrics:
Who walks the stairs without a care
It shoots so high in the sky.
Bounce up and down just like a clown
Everyone knows its Slinky.

The best present yet to give or get
The kids will all want to try.
The hit of the day when you are ready to play
Everyone knows it's Slinky.

It's Slinky, It's Slinky
for fun the best of the toys.
It's Slinky, It's Slinky
the favorite of girls and boys.

here's the thing...

its all political.

Miles has difficulty distinguishing between his simpleminded opinions and these pesky things we often refer to as facts.

Characterizing one's own opinions as "facts" does not make them facts, either. Given that the bulk of the left gets their opinions from analyzing the "facts" presented to them on an opinion show on comedy central is not exactly rigorous testing of one's biases.

Actually, that opinion show on comedy central has one of the best damn research teams around and it's viewers have consistently been shown to be better informed on current events than those who watch FauxNews. Oddly enough, so were people who watched no news at all.

As for the use of "Facts" and refusing to test one's biases...

Just peruse any of Ish's, Cap'n Hypocrite's, or mile's threads.. Hell, read any boxlicker post at random, or VetteBigot's fail threads if you can find them. The use of opinion as "fact" is much more common on the right around these parts.

Where conservatives and liberals err is believing ordinary folks are worth the powder to blow them to hell. Hitler had the right idea but shoulda sent everyone to death camps or Russia to kill commies.

Ah, the old "but...but...Comedy Central" deflection.

I think you have the picture.

This.

Being a physical presence in the world, is political.

(Lacking a physical presence in the world, due to circumstances, might be political.)

Being present in an area in the world, or off of this world, is political.

Making oneself known on the internets, is political.

Choosing to keep oneself unknown on the internets, is political.

Political decisions are made.
