It's me, the Lit Grinch. I'm hear to say that Christmas is the worst and I know there are some of you out here that feel the same.

As a person who grew up the product of messy divorces, too much family drama and turned into an adult with Major Depression Disorder and high anxiety, nothing is more cringe inducing than Christmas.

Whether it's the forced interaction with multiple families, gift shopping anxiety, or the dealing with the cheer-ladding perfectionist who have to everything just right, I can't see how anyone can enjoy this wretched holiday.

(Also its a pagan holiday absolutely co-opted and adulterated by Christianity, so bonus booo there)

So join me in saying Bah Humbug!

Haven't enjoyed Christmas in about 20 years. Was in hospital/nursing home till 12/24/23

Time to bump this thread.

Are we done Christmas yet?

Much of the world loves Christmas. There's an odd reason to make a thread about hating it, but have at it. To each his own

I’m not Christian but I enjoy going to my cousins’ house for their Christmas celebration. It’s nice to see them. Also, I love Hallmark’s Christmas movies. The loot I get from my aunt and uncle is a perk.

i'm fine with others enjoying their celebrations, but why force them on me? Leave me and the Charlie Brown Christmas alone...

I don't hate Christmas but it's hard to enjoy. My Dad passed away right before Thanksgiving, and it makes enjoying the holidays a bit hard since he was the one that made it enjoyable!!

Perhaps as time goes on the joy might come back ...

This can be an unpleasant time for retail workers, but gift buying stress is self-inflicted. Simply refusing to buy gifts is a cure available to all. People who value gifts more than your mental health can fuck off forever.

Christmas is a tough time of year for any. I agree with Leigh above.

The short days really get to me this time of year… (but today they start getting longer)

Our family simply buys things for ourselves that we’d like. We don’t do much gifting at all. But I like having my family at our house on Christmas Eve and day.

We have a lot of food and fun traditions (pumpkin squooshing from our farm, dancing and listening to the jukebox and records).

But the shopping, commercialism, commercials in general , I got no use for.

Even Christmas movies are a little bit stale these days.

I also enjoy the Hallmark Christmas movies during Christimas time and in July when they air it. I enjoy Christmas time and everything about it.

Wishing everyone (even those that don't like Christmas) a wonderful day. I have been on both side of it with many a good ones and some not so much. Gift giving has always been odd to me but I really enjoy family and friends getting together and feeling the spirit. Sometimes that can't happen though and I know how tough it can be when you don't have a reason to celebrate. Very hard on your mental state. So please hang in there. Enjoy the day the best you can and do something nice for yourself. You matter!!!❤️

Imagine that you have no family and no friends. (I now most of you cannot) You have never had any sort of stable or secure home (nobody in your family owned one to pass on and you've never made money to buy).

Imagine that you usually do have to work, because you're broke and just trying to keep afloat in the most terrible economy since the Great Depression. You also get tapped because your boss knows you have no spouse or children. You long since stopped believing in miracles or gods of any kind.

Imagine that you just never get presents, or invited to Christmas dinner, or even a phone call from anyone, year after year. You have never been kissed under the mistletoe and the sort of work you do, there has never been a party. You have spent your life being force fed the Griswalds and told that is what its supposed to be like.

Now be honest with yourself, would you be a fan of these holidays if all that were true? If you were alone and cold, tired, hungry, ignored. Every single year.

I have nothing against the holiday itself or those who enjoy it. But there are two things that make me hate the season.

1. I work in food service. Next to retail, the worst industry to be stuck in this time of year. People SUCK! Not everyone, obviously. But many, many of them. This is a trying time of year.

2. I loathe having to run all over town to do all the celebrations or people get mad at you for not coming. I like lazy holidays! This year I used my newfound disability as an excuse to go to the one event I refuse to miss and tell everyone else to fuck off. Much less frustrating.

Well, you got a lit family here. Reach out if you need to.

Dear OP,

Christmas is all over now, so rest easy.

I hope you survive the New Year celebration.
