I just voted in the democratic cacus

I'm confused...I thought Washington has a primary next week or something like that...which counts the caucus or the primary?

What happened to the tradition of not electioneering on the day you actually vote? I know it's just nominating the party candidate but it still rubs me the wrong way.

Oh and that shit I saw going on in Iowa. Writing names down on slips of paper and shuffling the piles around? Another tradition (secret ballots) out the window.

I don't know how it is for the Republican party but for the Democrat it's the caucus. WA spends 9 million on the primary but the DNP says fuck that, we're going to make you caucus. So the primary is pretty much just a popularity contest.

we have a primary on February 19

for the democrats it's all caucus (today)
republicans half caucus(later this month) and half primary

this I have heard before...now a really personal question...did it seem fair given how confusing it was? Or does it perpetuate a system that is broken in Washington?

i am frustrated with the system
for sure

not fair
i wish it was explained and simplified

My caucus was packed. We had about 10 precincts in the same school gym. There were tables for each precinct and then we all had to do our thing over the din. It was chaotic, noisy, hot in the room.

The process is kinda goofy. They don't open the doors until a particular time and then you are sent to your precinct table. You sign in at 1:30 and if you want say who you will vote for.

Somone is appointed tally counter (me) and we see how many for the candidates. There wasn't an official tally sheet in our packet and some wench from a different district with an AFSME for Hillary shirt said she would help us.
I told her no thanks. She wasn't listening and I told her again that she needed to go back to her precinct table.

Eventually the bozos got more sheets. There were 4 delegates up for grabs in my precinct. People gave speeches for each candidate but there were only a couple people in my group even for Hillary. The rest were for Obama.

I think the caucus process is crap. I think we should do a primary. Not everyone can participate who wants to. People work. And people might be intimidated by the process so they just bag it.

That said, we had a lot of people. An incredible number of people. And the Obama supporters got loud in the cheering as each precinct reported the tallies. He won easily in our group. Hillary still got some delegates though.
