Three years later and they still haven't let me ride in the cab.
Much like my love life, I got tired of being ignored and gave up on it.
Have you tried pacing the train on a horse while waving a pistol around?
No, I don't like horses. They are big and they stink.
I rode on this as a youngster. Many kids in Vancouver did thanks to school field trips to Squamish. I believe I also went with my mother and grandmother at one point as well.

Here's six minutes worth of the 4-8-4 Union Pacific #844 just screaming across the Wyoming prairie at 75 mph.
You can hear that whistle blowing— if this doesn't get your blood flowing, check to see if you've got a pulse.

That's called an undercutter machine. I clicked on this thread and expected a TOTALLY different thing.. As I'm sure most of us did. However, I have been employed as a Railroad conductor for almost 18 years for a major U.S. railroad. If anyone has questions or wants to know how certain things work I will be happy to answer the best I can. Granted, most FRN's are more knowledgeable about the equipment than I care to be. Just offering some of my expertise on this subject. Everyone always has questions when they hear what I do as a profession.
Do they give you the blue and white striped hat for free, or do you have to pay for it?
375 fucking MILES (not kilometers) per hour.

Staggering isn't it.....with the distances in the US I find it hard to believe the US is so far behind the curve on this one.
A few years ago I was lucky enough to travel on a Maglev in Shanghai; pretty impressive.
Woof!
