lol! I never watched the show but when JR got shot, that's all I heard about.

I love Dallas. The shooting of J.R. touched off a worldwide mania in the spring and summer of 1980. Which went well into the fall because the writers went on strike and the fall season was delayed. Somebody recorded a song, "Who Shot J.R.?," which was a minor hit. Larry Hagman was on a plane at an airport, and supposedly the pilot refused to take off until Hagman revealed who shot J.R.

Problem was, none of the actors knew, and that was by design. The producers filmed scenes of literally every character shooting J.R. except for Miss Ellie (J.R.'s mom, as played by the brilliant actress Barbara Bel Geddes). When the episode revealing J.R.'s would-be assassin came out, I think 500 million people worldwide eventually saw it. The Turkish parliament actually adjourned so they could all go home and watch.
