Spouse A is misinformed that Spouse B was killed in an accident. A seeks solace with Neighbour Friend or Relative C, which is suddenly sexual- when B walks in- turns out they confused the identity of who died...

I remember a recent documentary about two teenage girls who were in a horrible car crash. One was killed; the other was so banged up she was barely recognizable, and in a coma. The authorities mis-identified her and gave her to the wrong parents.

It was months before she was cognizant enough to realize that something was wrong, and longer still before she could communicate it.

Kind of a downer of a story, and not at all erotic, but it does show the emotional potential of this kind of situation.

This may be totally off the mark... but the first thing I thought of when I read your post was Castaway... when Helen Hunt ends up marrying (insert actor here) because she thinks Tom Hanks is dead. What makes this so very very poignant is how Tom Hank's character hangs on to life through thoughts of his wife.

Perhaps a twist would be the female character still drawn to her 1st husband and meeting with him.. innocently at first... but then having the old feelings re-emerge, leading, of course, to an affair. How ironic... to have an affair with your husband? Husband number 2 trying to be understanding... giving them space.

Maybe the first husband comes and the wife starts dating him to help him adjust back. Then they fall back in love but she still loves 2nd husband as well. So they decide to share her. She becomes common wife, each has to pretend that wife works away in their neighbourhood. thoughts?

A completely different scenario:

Couple fakes woman's death to collect insurance money. Someone finds out, maybe even the insurance agent, and blackmails the couple and can have his way with the "dead" woman for the rest of her death.

Maybe the wife meets someone just as similar in attitude and mannerisms. And at one point he does so
ethi.g straight up like her "dead" husband would. Despite looking nothing like him, her mind pictures him everytime they are together. As she sees her husband(like not seeing the forest for the trees, i guess?) Thats where the sexual relationship starts off. Her mind convinces her the guy is him and locks it in. Then a few days in to it he comes back from where he was at. Then she is conflicted when he comes home, there you toss in one of the other posters ideas.

He meets his former wife and her new husband. She doesn't recognize her first husband following his surgery, but she's strongly attracted to this "new" man. He realized that and makes a move on her.....will she take up with him again?

That's exactly what I thought of. I like this idea.
