DVS said:Interesting. OD stands for right eye and OS for left. OU means both. The first number is for a simple distance correction and the second number is if your eyeball is slightly oval shaped. That number (along with the axis, which is the third number) is to correct the distance from the lens of your eye to the retina. It's quite common. It means you have an astigmatism.
And the pl-63? I've never heard of a pl, so I'm assuming that is your PD (pupilary distance). That's the distance in millimeters from the center of one eye to the center of the other eye. That is necessary so the focal point of the lenses in the glasses will match the focal point that is in your eyes.
In less corrective perscriptions, the PD isn't such a necessity to get accurate. But, when there is a high correction lens involved, the PD can be crucial. We are talking in millimeters and so a little deviation one way or the other can cause the patient to have headaches.
Oh, there are other reasons a patient might have headaches, but if the PD is off, a prism affect is created which actually draws the eye to one side, or maybe up or down, instead of allowing it to look straight through the lens. It can also give the patient a queasy stomach to even wear the glasses.
Prism can be ground into the lens on purpose to correct instances where the muscles of the eye aren't working together and the patient has trouble focusing both eyes on one thing. But, if it's there by mistake, it can cause obvious problems. Who wants to feel like they are going to throw up, when they put there new glasses on?![]()
Your prescription is kind of middle of the road. Not too bad, either way. But, because both sphere and cylinder are minus numbers...it means you aren't getting enough sex in your diet. Need any help with that problem?![]()
Sorry, just some optical lab humor. Plus scripts we considered someone was getting too much sex and minus scrpts were not getting enough. Don't worry, it's not possible for someone to tell anything about your sex life, by checking your eyes. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.![]()
Neat! Now i know what it all means. Yeah, my eyes aren't bad at all, but my right is worse than my left. My mum's left eye is so bad they give her one featherlight lens and one normal to even the thicknesses out. Some kid hit her in the eye with a branch when she was a kid.
Nonetheless, he wants me to wear them more. i'm trying, but that gives me headaches because i'm not used to them. Ah well. And now i'm ordering sunglasses which he calls "blind man dark" because my eyes are lightly pigmented, and the older i get the lighter blue they go. i appear to be the only one who inherited this from my mum. The really neat part is that when my aunt brought some pictures of some of our ancestors one of the women had the same eyes. Up until then i thought my mum was a sport.
