OOC: Alright, this is the IC thread for my D&D Group SRP. Please do not post comments, questions, or concerns in this thread. If you wish to join go here. I'm actually not sure if there is still room, but I had planned the cutoff at six. Also, it is up to the players to decide if they know each other. Minus Leo, of course. He none of you know him. This first adventure is a short and simple one so you can all get acquainted and learn each others abilities and skill sets.

DM: Our first adventure shall begin in the small village of Fallcrest along the Old King's Road. In the nearby Kobold Hall, a small ruin of an old lord who's name and glories are long forgotten, kobolds have infested the place, which is why it was renamed the Kobold Hall. A kobold tribe, the Skullkickers, have driven out all other tribes and have begun attacking caravans along the Old King's Road. Jota, the Tiefling Barbarian, has been recruited by Teldorthan Goldcap, the dwarf armorer, to recover a cured dragon hide from the Skullkicker kobold tribe residing in the nearby Kobold Hall. Aryk, the Human Soulknife, has been recruited by Nimorzaran the Green, the High Setarch of Fallcrest, to investigate the kobold attacks. He believes they are to well organized for kobolds. The Lord Warden has hired three different individuals to collect bounties on the heads of kobolds inside Kobold Hall. An Lin Arlana, the Avariel Sorceress, T'Liy, the Aasimar Druid, and Leo, the Doppelganger Rogue. You have all been sent to the Kobold Hall, which is fifteen miles from Fallcrest. Leo is the first to arrive, with the other adventurers still on their way.

IC: Leo looked around the small clearing just outside the so called Kobolds Hall. Not very impressive. It is an old ruin of some lord that he couldn't quite recall the name of, and it was in complete shambles. Nothing in sight in the way of creatures, he moved to it. Darkness covered the inside. Just the way he liked it. He pulled up the hood on his cloak and it covered his face in shadow, hiding it from the sun overhead. He stepped back into the shadows to await the others he was sent here to collect the bounties with. He leaned against the wall and tested his bow. Still strong. He checked his short sword and was pleased to find the end as sharp as if it were just made. Sharper, even. He took good care of his equipment. He still had all of his arrows with him, so he wouldn't need any additional for now.

His clothing was simple and effective. The dark cloak to help him blend into the shadows that he seemed to live his life in, simple and sturdy shirt and pants, and soft leather boots, all black. It was in stark contrast to his skin, which was a pale white. Whether it was from staying in the dark all time or because of his being a Doppelganger, he did not know. He had never met one of his own kind, but he gathered from books and tomes he had studied that they were lone wolves by heart, only interested in their own devices. He had been that way for around ten years now. Before that, he had a partner. A Dragonborn. But there was an incident. They had been seperated, and now he hadn't seen his partner for years. He took out a small wooden case and looked in it. A small fragment of shell. The shell of that Dragonborn. He put it back in a pouch before picking up his bow and watching the treeline for his soon to be group.

An Lin is flying tward Kobald Hall. Flying at treetop level. "It shouldn't be to much farther" she thinks to herself.

Aryk had been watching the hall for a little while, studying it's defenses. That had turned out to be infinitely easier then he'd expected, as apparently the kobolds inside hadn't thought to post any sentries. But then again, what did you expect from kobolds?

Of course, that was what Minorazan the Green had hired Aryk to do, investigate the goings-on of the kobolds. The High Setarch was convinced that someone else, some one much more organized and competent, was behind the kobolds recent influx in to the town. Aryk has figured this would be an easy enough job, a little observation work. But it was becoming abundantly clear that the only was he was going to learn anything was to actually make it inside the Kobold Hall some way.

Sighing, he ran his hand through his brownish blond hair, and made his way down the street towards the hall....

An Lin

An Lin lands at the edge of the clearing and quickly hides. Not seeing anyone, she quietly heads tward where she thinks the kobalts are.

An Lin

An Lin didn't get far from Kobold Hall. She stopped and asked Poggy "Do you think that I'm doing the right thing by leaving T'Lly and Leo to fend for themselves?" Poggy answered in a language that only An Lin can understand "No, I think that you are wrong in doing this. Afterall, you do have a contract with Lord Warden." Thinking to herself "Yeah, this is wrong. I must go back." "I'm so lucky to have you as such a good friend, Poggy." With that, An Lin starts to fly back to where she was. Just outside Kobold Hall. Just before they reach Kobold Hall An Lin Tells Poggy "Stay out here. I don't think that there wil be enough room for you to fly in there." An Lin flys down to just outside the door going into Kobold Hall and lands. She goes up to the side of the door and peeks in. "It's too dark to see anything and too quiet too" she mutters to herself. As silently as she can she steps thru the doorway.

Jota checked the wickedly curved weapon attached to the shoulder of his coats harness for the third time in as many minutes, it had been a while since he had gone out like this, he usually stuck to cities, preferably the ones with paved roads, he felt safer there. He liked civilization, he found that he was less likely to run in to trouble that was beyond his abilities if he stayed in such places, he could pound on civilized folk with no problem, but the more exotic opponents usually needed a little something more than a talk with his fists.

Thankfully his job would only bring him up against Kobolds, Kobolds bleed no matter what you’re swinging, little bastards do like a good trap though, Jota made a mental note to check for things like that once he reached the place. Kobold Hall, such an imaginative name, he was curious if the kobolds came up with it or some farmer, probably just some ruin the lizard-dogs were squatting in.

Speaking of the Hall, he should have been getting close by now, he stopped and pulled a badly scrawled map from his pocket and checked over, if it was accurate, which he was hopeful it was, despite its crude appearance, then he was almost there. He stashed the map back in his pocket and set off in to the woodlands that skirted the road, the hood of his long Darkweave coat coming up and turning him in to just another shadow in the woods (A shadow with a white face and a backpack, but still, shadow).

He came up to the hall, still concealed in the brush between the clearing and the woods (Hide check, 11 rolled + 4 skills +1 Darkweave = 16 total) He saw a pair of wings disappear through the doors to the hall and cocked an eyebrow, he knew of a few things approximately that size that would have wings, but what would anything like that be doing here? He gave the clearing a quick scan, (Spot check, 19 rolled + 2 skills = 21 total) there was someone else there, he could see the movement, too large to be Kobold though, this hall was getting far more crowded than it should be.

He stepped out of hiding and took a few steps in to the clearing, half expecting a crossbow bolt to the head, but when his head remained untouched he turned to look at where he thought his company was, then shrugged, maybe it was just an animal or something.

IC: (Spot Check - 19+2=21) Leo catches the winged form moving through the doorway. An Ariel? Interesting. He also notices the rustling in the bushes and the tiefling that was attempting to hide. He lights his torch, hangs it from the wall and knocks an arrow to his bow, not lowering his hood.

"Greetings. You must be An Lin Arlana, the sorceress." He nodded at the now lit up form in front of him, then tilted his head at the bushes. "Friend of yours?"

The tiefling stepped out of the bushes and made his way across the open area between the treeline and the ruined fort. Leo nodded at him slightly when he stepped through the door into the torchlight. He did not know this man.

"What brings you here?" he asks.

Leo takes a mental note of their appearences. He would be able to morph into them if need be. He scanned the treeline quickly, looking for the other woman he was supposed to clear this ruin out with. (Spot Check - 9+2=11)

DM: Leo notices nothing.

IC: He turns his attention back to the two in front of him, waiting for their responses.

An Lin

"Yes, indeed, I am An Lin and you must be Leo?" An Lin whispers. "It is a pleasure to meet you" An Lin moves to put Leo in between her and oncoming figure and prepares to cast a spell if this figure turns out to be an enemy. "I have no idea who that is"

Jotas face didn’t once change from its state as a mask of vague disinterest as he approached the pair just beyond the doors, hands hanging unthreateningly by his sides, nowhere near the blade on his shoulder in case they took it as a hostile act, the more people on your side the more people you can stab in the back.

“Retrieval contract” he offered as a rather curt answer to the man’s question, he looked human enough, but from what he could see under that hood of his, the colour of his skin didn’t match up with that assumption, after all, it looked the same as his. “And it has nothing to do with the two of you, well, not to the best of my knowledge anyway.” A definite call on his race may have been out for the time being, but he could tell other things from what he could see, he had the simple attire you would expect from a wilderness man, didn’t look like a druid, and too civilised for a barbarian… Probably some kind of ranger.

He didn’t like this, dealing with these kinds of complications wasn’t part of the deal, he wasn’t getting paid enough for anything of the like. “So you can stop hiding behind there” he said with a glance at the winged elf behind the man, what were they called again? Avarials or something, he remembered that it sounded like avian “It’s rude” he had to admit though, whatever her kind liked to be called, they had some impressive wings, the illustrations he had seen didn’t do them justice.

He looked back to the more chatty of the pair, his face still showing nothing but indifference “Now that I’ve answered your question, I would appreciate it if you could answer it yourself.”

Leo turned his gaze back to the tiefling. A retrieval op? What was it that he was retrieving? No matter. If his business brought him into the hall, then he would benefit from their company.

"Extermination." was his simple reply to the man's question.

His face was passive. When you don't show emotion, people are less likely to make rash decisions. Regardless of the man's disinterested face, there was no mistaking that glint in his eyes. Leo decided he would have to watch his back around this one. Their final supposed companion was still missing, so they couldn't quite enter the hall yet.

"If your 'retrieval' brings you into this hall, you would do well to wait for the last of our group. Four sets of eyes are better than one." he said as an offer of companionship. Going with a group definately wasn't his style, but it would be better this way. Less death on their side. Kobolds may be weak, but get enough of them and they'll just plow you over without a second thought. That's an interesting thought. Do kobolds even think? It didn't matter. After they were finished, none of the kobolds here would be having any thoughts.

An Lin

"What is it that you are here to retrieve?" Looking at him from head to toe, not knowing if she can trust him or not. If fact, wheather she can trust either one of theses two. At least she was told about Leo, but nothing was said about this stranger.

Extermination? Not an unheard of thing to be hired for, but kobolds aren’t usually the targets of such things, from his experience they weren’t nearly aggressive enough to warrant such actions… It didn’t sit right with Jota, not for any moral reason, but for a logical one, who has the resources to hire 3 capable looking adventurers, with little possibility of profit? Maybe there was more to this task then meets the eye.

The offer of cooperation was tempting though, he considered it carefully as he moved to the side and leaned against the wall just by the door, pulling the hood of his coat down to reveal his horns and hair. On one hand, if that extermination involved him, he would be putting himself in a rather vulnerable position, on the other, never hurts to have a canary or two to send in front to clear the traps. “Seems like a plan to me” he said with a shrug “when your friend arrives, we go.”

He turned to regard the winged one again, at least she wasn’t cowering behind the other one anymore, he wasn’t sure if he should answer her question though, dragonhide was a worthy prize, how did he know they wouldn’t try to take it? “Dragonhide” he answered after a moment’s hesitation, if they were going to take it they would try regardless of what it turned out to be “go in, find whatever cured dragonhide they apparently have, and bring it to my employer, simple enough”

“My name is Jota by the way” he said, no point being secretive at this point “if we’re going to work together you might as well know, how long can we expect to wait for your associate?”

An Lin

"It seems highly unlikely that these creatures would have the intelligence or the capability to kill a dragon in order to get its hide. My race and dragons have been fighting each other for eons. I know how powerful they are." An Lin whispers. "If the Kobolds do have any, they stole it for someone else."

Jota couldn’t help but chuckle at the as of yet, unnamed woman’s words “I take it you don’t know much about kobolds” he said with a smirk “they love dragons, practically worship them, it might have been a gift, or maybe it’s a treasured heirloom” he pulled a whetstone from the side pocket on his bag with one hand and drew his blade with the other.

“Also, don’t go in there thinking you’re facing some dumb animals, the little lizard dogs are no less intelligent than most species” he continued as he idly sharpened the blade “even if they weren’t, underestimating you foe is an easy way to get you and everyone relying you on dead.”

IC: Leo watched the man sharpening his blade. He was unusually bright for the normal run-of-the-day soldier. He replaced the arrow in his quiver and fitted the bow over his shoulder. He touched the underside of his left forearm, making sure that his hidden blade was still there. He could feel the reassuring shape under the cloak. It was still there. Good.

He leaned back against the wall, not taking his eyes off the tiefling. He didn't like him, really. Then again, he didn't seem to like many people, if any, these days. He looked about the small, crumbling room they were in. Nothing in particular that was interesting. The stairwell that led down to the interior of the Hall was five meters to his right, and was rather dark. The air was damp, damper than it should have been for this area. He looked at the wall across from him, unfocusing his eyes in a way a ranger had once taught him. It allowed you to see everything in your vision at once without actually moving your eyes. He remained immobile and waited for any additional companions that might arrive.

IC: Leo glanced around once more before shaking his head.

"She is taking too long. We will have to move on without her."

He knocks an arrow to the string of his longbow and he moves down the stairwell, leading the way.

DM: Dominating the room ahead is a long trench filled with a glowing green substance. Beyond the trench, a small, reptilian humanoid stands in a shadowy chamber, gaping at you. It carries a sling, and quickly reaches into a pouch at its belt for a stone. It hisses and shouts "Intrudersss! Intrudersss!" There is a doorway behind it and passageways to the left and right.

Roll initiative.

IC: Initiative - 4 + 6 =10

An Lin

An Lin quietly draws he rapier and follows Leo down the dimly lit tunnel. The tunnel seems eerly quiet and there is a foul stinch coming from down the tunnel. The group comes to a small room and there is a figure in it. This figure starts shouting something in a language that I don't understand.

Initiative - 10+6= 16
