Has anyone here had, or seen, ringworm? (Damn dogs ) I've been researching it for 2 days now & can't get a difinitive on whether it's dry & flaky, or moist. I've read one as much as the other. Any input is appreciated.

:(

It's dry, particularly inside the ring.

I have seen them several times (and had one once) on the kids at school. The body hair cannot grow near it either.

There are over the counter medications and they say use twice a day. You can use them more often (every hour, even) and it will go away much faster. Keep the area covered because it is highly contagious. I had one on my chin, and the only thing we could figure out was I had put my chin on a child's head before the ringworm was visible in his hair. (He later had one in his hair).

Thanks morninggirl & April another question for you if you don't mind....

Is it dry from the onset? The spots I'm seeing on my dogs are moist, the hair falls out, but it looks a bit like oozing acne. The areas are about the size of a dime.

Called my vet, he doesn't know but offered me two choices...his antifungal cream $32. for 1 1/2 oz or Jock Itch cream from the pharmacy for $6.99! Geez, which way do you go!

Go with the Jock Itch. Seriously. Antifungal is antifungal. My ringworm was dry from the start. I've never seen it on an animal. I've got really furry cats.

if you aren't positive as to what it is.. take the animal to the vet.. i had a cat that had a patch of hair that fell out and what looked like ringworm to me (i'm a nurse, i've seen plenty of them.. and i know what it looks like). I called the vet.. he told me more than likely my suspicion was right and to use the antifungal cream. After a day of using it, my cats skin turned bright red (around the area where i was putting the meds) and she was freaking. The vet came to the house (because my cat is neurotic, and can't go to the vets office, she almost had a heartattack the last time she went, so he comes here to see her). Needless to say it WASN'T ringworm but an infection from something else. and i was making it worse with the antifungal meds.

Do your best bet is to take her/him to the vet.. and if it is ringworm.. don't buy his meds it's the same thing that you can get over the counter at the pharmacy.

Thanks April. I didn't really figure it was ringworm. All the photos I found on the net showed dry, but I read moist also

Every fall, it's one damn thing after another with these dogs!

Freakygurl :D trust me, I almost never buy vet meds. Almost anything they can dose you with can be bought for less somewhere else! My house is actually just a huge pharmacy :)
