I'll be glad when the election is over.

I think I'll give an example of one of my ideas on how to fix the economy. And it's just an idea, I know it'll never happen. Also, I know I'm probably going to hear some calling me a hypocrit for saying this, but I truly think this.

How about putting restrictions on ssi eligibility?

Perhaps one way in which to do this would be to make it so that only indeviduals who are not able to contribute there skills to a job because of severe physical or mental disabilities would be eligible for full benefits. I realize this hits home for me because I get ssi payments monthly, but my argument is that I am capable of working, so I should be out making my own money instead of living off everyone else. I'm not saying I'm not qualified for the medical benefits because I am obviously, but I guess I could also turn around and say that if I'm working, I can pay the bill for the surgery. I mean, a person who is paralyzed from the neck down is entitled to that money more than I am. Then maybe disabled individuals wouldn't have such a hard time finding work because it was common for a disabled person to work, and by mmore disabled people working, more money would be available to put towards other programs.

Like I said, this makes me sound like a hypocrit, and I am not a politician, so I realize I probably missed some angles. I thought that it may be a "middle of the road" point of view though instead of something from the far far left.

Again, I don't mean any offense. I realize there are some of you who deal with disability issues at some point everyday. Just me expressing my political ideas. I've been quite interested in politics ever since I was twelve.

That's all highly commendable of you,... wanting to be part of the solution and not part of the masses with their hands out.

In my job, I see a lot of misuse of my tax dollars in the form of medicare and medicaid.

I've been trying to think of something that needed change as far as the gas prices are concerned, and even though the price of gas doesn't really apply to me because I don't drive, I have a few ideas on the subject. Perhaps I should shut up about it, but I won't, I say what I want when it applies to something relevant.

1) The United states could stop depending on the Middle East for our oil. The problem with this for me though is that in order to build the necessary pipelines etc, a lot of wild life habitats would need to be destroyed, and I'm not for taking the environment away from the wild.

2) Perfect the electric cars. This would take a while, but it would be a good thing.

That's all I can think of right now on the topic. I guess I don't really have an idea or thought for the tax problem, except that if the prices for various programs decreased, the taxes would decrease as well.

I'm not AA but I'm answering, anyway. You can ignore me if you choose to.

Just because you don't drive does not mean that the increase in gas prices has no effect on you. You are a consumer. Any thing trucked into a grocery store where you shop, will reflect the increase in gas prices.

The Alaskans have been begging for more oil developement there. But so far, that's still been thwarted. And no, a lot of "wild habitat" would not be destroyed.

Electric cars... I'm all in favor of alternative research.

Well hell, let's go there ... shy ... wake the hell up under the bed. i know you're in the UK and have to have visited the Continent on occasion.

Dove ... any idea what the rest of the world pays for gas? Granted they buy in liters, but let's just go there ...

Thank you adr.

I feel like a hypocrit because here I am saying this, but yet I'm sitting here collecting payments. I only do it out of practicality though. My parents refuse to support me financially.

I know many people personally who sit at home and collect ssi for no reason. They go to the doctor, pretend they are mentally challanged and get the doctor to sign a form stating that his patient is eligible for ssi benefits. This makes me very angry because the only mental disability they have in my opinion is thinking that they don't have to work.

You know, I'm a registered Democrat, but perhaps I shouldn't be, lol.

I don't like either of the two candidates in the running either, but I think what we have right now isn't something we need in order to get out of the rut we are in.

You do know that alcoholics and drug addicts qualify for SSI, don't you? And yes, they do collect.

Actually, if your bent is Democrat, you should register Republican and vote for the biggest goof in the primaries. Don't laugh. i know people that do it.

Nope, I don't know exactly what the price of gas is in other countries, but I do know it is expensive. I'm not sure about this, so don't listen to me if I'm wrong, but except for a number of countries who get their oil from elsewhere, doesn't the Middle East provide oil to a higher percentage of the world? I mean, I can count the number of countries who either have their own oil or get it from Russia or something. I don't think it's the majority of the world. Perhaps it would be better for every individual country to have their own supply of oil, but of course, I do realize that would be impossible for countries who don't have oil available to them because of their location.

Well, if the habitat doesn't need to be destroyed to build the necessary pipelines then I'm all for it.

Yes, I do know about alcaholics collecting ssi. My brother is an drug adict, and he collects. This is only my opinion, but the Government is supporting his drug adiction by giving him this money. If he were just getting ssi payments he wouldn't have the money to buy drugs or at least certain drugs, but he also collects ssdi. He's one of the many people I know who sits at home because he thinks he doesn't have to work. I mean, why shouldn't he have to work? He's not unable to work.

-- Global gas prices as of June 1, 2004, were supplied by Associates for International Research, Inc., a firm that tracks the cost of living around the globe. Where applicable, metric measurements were converted to U.S. gallons.

The stats came from this article: Gas prices at a glance

A friend in the UK tells me that gas prices there are artificially raised by taxes, and that the tax rate is more than 50 percent of the actual base price. Don't know how true this is, though.

Personally, if we really wanted to lower reliance on gas, we'd start looking at more mass transit options, both in Canada and the US. I'm lucky; in my town, mass transit is pretty darn good and whenever my schedule allows I use it. Currently that's about 3 days a week. Long distance wise, mass transit is pretty much nonexsistant. If I didn't have my own vehicle, I wouldn't be able to make the 3-4 hour drive to my hometown to see my family every few weeks.

AA...

If you didn't watch The Osmonds on A&E tonight... I will be highly disappointed in you.

Most of those prices are unbelievable! And I'm not surprised to see that Baghdad has the lowest prices of all.

If Americans had to pay 7 dollars for a gallon of gas, every station would be "Pay before you pump." When it went up to 1.80 here, a station had its workers park facing the street so they could chase down people stealing gas.

I'll just get 4 slave girls to pull me around in a chariot.

Let's run it out a little further ...
  • The economy in Detroit would crash and at least one major union would go up in smoke. So much for the Dems courting that particular vote any longer.
  • Japan would lose a major import/export partner, and possibly drive their economy into the toilet.
  • The price for everything would go through the roof because trucking serves as a major means for transportation of goods in this country.
  • Suburban sprawl would reverse and create black holes or white dwarfs of most major cities as people tried to get back into the city so they could afford to work.
  • Let your imaginations continue to run wild ...

i think you just hit on a major cash cow idea. If i buy in as a junior partner, can i have one of the little one/two slave girl sports models?

Sure, but we can forget about desert rose. She hates exercise. kc might do it, if we promise to whip her before, during, and after.

Wait ... i'd have to submit for SSI for carpal tunnel syndrome, and i rarely submit for anything. Then again we could do the reverse psychology thing and stop whipping her to get her to go faster ...
