I'll never defend Fakebook and would love to see it out of business, but ... Fuck EU.

I support removing comments that promote criminal activity, but this will be used by oppressive governments to force removal of comments in protests or that they simply don't like and 'deem illegal'. We've already seen that in Hong Kong among other places.

Well, deemed illegal by a specific statutes... following a fair hearing.

Take for example my jurisdiction (which is not the EU), has passed law that it is illegal to advertise the sale of domestic animals on any medias, including online outlets (gumtree-craigs list-facebook market place). (This is as a crackdown on puppy farm and shadowy domestic breeders for animal welfare purpose / and especially the criminal groups that have infiltrated this piggy bank. As part of this, our public entities have lobbied Facebook about it, which has responded by putting a policy that the sale of animals is not allowed. This allowed the organisation to self regulate.

As such, what this court decision shows is that if Facebook had said F-U we do what we want, then it can be sued for allowing posts that are illegal. In this example: sale of pets.

But this can be discrimination act, bullying and harrassment laws etc

So while there’s potential for misuse im term of result... it doesn’t mean it’s all evil.

Though Thailand is not in the EU, they have strict laws against speaking out against the King. Some EU countries have similar laws and could use that here.

Fine but justice is blind.

You can’t just make it happen out of thin air. You first need to vote a Statute, the statute need to meet principles of justice in whatever jurisdiction it is set on or it could be deemed invalid by justice.

There’s a difference in saying I believe in Free Catalunya because of this or that, or provide a democratic argument in favour of. Vs. say ‘free catalynua or we’ll attack this or that’... or speak in the word of an organisation that act like this or condone it.


It’s the difference between making a facebook group about ‘free Vermont’ and peacefully provide information within the realm of the system; or a group about ‘northern Idaho militia commune’ that posts evolves towards paramilitary and terrorism (and maybe being listed)
