To clarify, ‘label’ has at least three definitions: 1) a slip of paper or other material identifying an object attached to the object; 2) a descriptive term, an epithet; and 3) a distinctive name or trademark identifying a product or manufacturer, especially a recording company.

Rory’s reply uses the third meaning of label (Democrats) to call me stupid. To clarify, when I used the word Democrats in my historical commentary, I probably should have said ‘people identifying as Democrats.’ When I used the words ‘ignoring labels’ I meant the second definition of the word label. To clarify, I probably should have said ‘without resorting to calling people names (like stupid or idiot etc.)’. I was simply recounting historical facts about the Democratic Party’s past.
