I'm in Hell! (Open)

When she comes back and hands me over a plate of chocolate. "Thank you!" I said to her before eating it carefully as she sat down across from me. After a few bites at it, I ask, "Are we going down there? Or are we going to do about those things down there? The nearest town is thirty miles away. Are we going to walk all the way there and get help, or are we going to go back and do it ourselves?" Either way for us, I thought, it's going to tax us and my biggest fear is, if we leave the area, the chances of them getting out were high, even though she said they were as dumb as a bag of hammers and they were more likely to kill each other than even think of escaping.

"Your welcome Well the only way to completely destroy those creatures is with Napalm and i can put together a crude form of it and with your help we could get it in their using the escape tunnel we used to get out of their."

"Or we could just leave it alone and just move on from this place."

That's where I was torn. My brain told me to save yourself and run away, but my sense of duty to prevent the contagion from spreading forced me to look down at my plate of dessert and stab at it several times before looking up. "The base if huge. We're going to need a lot of napalm," I said, "And something to launch it with. "I've always wanted to use one of those things," a sick smile coming to my lips.

"Well then we will have to get started on it in the morning but first lets finish eating dessert then we will change the sheets and blanket's on the bed. Once that is down we can decide who will take the first watch."

I don't think i'll be able to sleep. As I finished the dessert I took our plates to the sink, washed them, and set them aside as she dressed the bed. Looked almost like the way it was when it was still in business. "I can take the first watch" taking up my rifle, "I'm not tired. If anything, I can't sleep."

"Alright if you insist" after making sure my own firearms where in good order i got into the bed and i got some sleep. A few hours later i relieve you so you can get some rest.

We were sleeping in four hour shifts. The first hour was pretty quick with me sitting still, but the next three hours got progressively worse as the silence became my enemy. Every once in a while I would look over at her and she would be curled up in the bed peaceful and calm, but then I would take a peek outside and see the darkness and wonder if there was anything looking back. Never felt so alone in my life. If anything was to head our way, they had to get past me, but how much of a fight could I put up? If they were zombies then it was a shot to the head, but what if they mutated, like that thing in the tunnel. I know what she said earlier, but doing nothing in this small room way making my own mind work against me.

After sleeping another 4 Hours i woke up "I'm wake its your turn to get some rest i grabbed my rifle and kept watch while you slept. After tossing and turning for a little while you finally settle down and go to sleep.

When she took over it was difficult for me to sleep for the same reason. It was too quiet out. I curled up with my rifle like it was a teddy bear, but it still didn't calm me down for maybe forty five minutes or so before sawing wood. I had a nightmare. That damn creature in the tunnel had broken loose and had found us in our hotel room and was tearing the place apart. Firing my rifle was useless, it was like using a BB gun, then it got ahold of her and tore her apart to pieces that rained blood onto me and then it was over when I sat up in a jerk.

"Are you alright? you look like you have seen something terrible."

"Yeah. Yeah. It's just...it's just a bad dream," chuckling softly at first before rolling out of the bed with my rifle. Checking the bolt, there was a round in the chamber with the safety on. "I just...I just had a dream that one of those things got out of the base and...and it got in here. It ripped you apart."

"I will be alright and so will you its almost daylight what do you want for breakfast?"

"Okay. Sure" nodding to her. She was kind, but at the same time I wonder what she was hiding behind her smile. It seemed that the outbreak didn't phase her in the slightest. I knew that sergeants were suppose to be strong, and she was doing a good job at that, but I had to wonder if she was as scared as I was this moment about what we were facing.

So I grab my apron put it on then I use what food supplies are available to us. To make breakfast while its cooking I make some coffee for us, once taken care of I set the table. After the table has been set I make the bed "How did you sleep last night?"

"I slept okay. Just the nightmade" I replied running fingers through my hair. I watched as she put on her apron and prepared the meal as if there was nothing wrong in the world. What was going through her mind as she did this? We both knew the dangers we were now in, but our set up had the feel of a vacation rather than a zombie plague.

"Good now i see that you have something or a lot of somethings on your mind now please let it out. you will feel a lot better once its out of your system."

My mouth watered for a bit as I tried to sort it out. "If we go back in there, it's going to be Hell trying to clear them out. I-I...how are we going to do it? There's hundreds or thousands of our former friends down there. I don't want to see you get ripped apart in front of me...."

"You won't have to just stand guard at the exit of the escape tunnel that we used. Using that empty coffee can. I can put together a crude form of napalm place it in the base Armory light the fuse. Then run out of their and up the escape tunnel. and then we both run away as fast as we can."

"Will that kill all of them?" I asked her rather skeptical at it. The coffee cans were small, too small to kill all of them. "What if we get bitten? Will that cure you made be enough for us?"

"Yes it will since i am placing it in the Armory all of the Ammunition and grenades down they will create several secondary explosions. If the primary blast does completely do the job the secondary's will take out anything that was not killed by the primary blast."

"If we get bitten that cure i made will be enough but if you want to a small dose of it before we go in we can do that."

"Will the cure make me immune to their bite, or will it only slow it down?" I asked. When it came to the detonation of the munitions in the armory, it was a brilliant plan, but there was another flaw in it. I know there were several hundred thousand rounds of small arms ammunition, but there was also the munitions for artillery, mortars, and every other type of ground ordinance you can think of. That kind of detonation in such a confined space may kill almost all of the things still done there, provided that they're not in a sealed room. The sealed rooms had blast doors that were three feet thick of reinforced steel. Not even point blank artillery could pierce the doors. And if the bombs did go off and kill them, the blast may cause the ground above the facility to collapse trapping everything down there. I couldn't tell if that was good or bad.

"If you get bit the cure will stop the infection that would turn you into a zombie. I know about blast door's on the armory. I will find away to keep them open that way only the base facilities will be destroyed. the other property near the base will not be damaged."

"Okay. That sounds like it will work, but what if we run into other survivors down there? People who haven't turned? Are we going to help them, or leave them there to die?" I didn't want to leave them there, but if there was a risk of any bit of the virus from getting out, we may have to damn those people to a fiery death. It sickened me, but it had to be done. Part of being in the military was making tough decisions. That's why she was in charge and not me, because she was making the right calls-so far. I was scared. My stomach churned and I felt light headed listening to this.

"In that case we will use the antidote to treat them if not then we continue with our mission to destroy the base and then get out of here are you alright you look like your going to puke." I grab a glass of club soda and i give it to you to drink.

"I'm okay. I'm okay" I kept saying. I was trying to keep my stomach settled. When she came by with the club soda, I tried to drink it. There was no flavor to it, bleh. But she insisted that I keep doing it to settle my stomach. So I did. "I hope that we don't have to go kill people. I know I joined the Army, but I didn't think we would be killing our own people."
