I'd hate to asume they did and be wrong, so I'm not sure how to handle that part of it.Wow, thats wonderful information, thank you. I had no idea this was so popular, and man, am I glad it is. I can't write a story to save my life and most of my poems are just emotional venting. I feel a journal would be really good for me. All these options would enable me to keep out the bad guys, and let in only those I dig. Way cool!Etoile said:Hey sheath, can you PM me with your lj username, too? I have a "friends from Lit" friends filter.
I will add that LiveJournal is not the only place to keep a journal, but it might well be the most popular. One of the reasons I prefer it over Blogger is the community aspect - LJ has so many awesome communities you can join. But they only give you very limited control over the design, unless you pay money. Blogger, on the other hand, lets you design it any way you want. And there are still other services that let you host it on your own site - I use a piece of software called Movable Type in addition to my LiveJournal.
There are probably hundreds of blog hosts right now. There are 78 listed here, so you can pick and choose your favorite.
I happen to know quite a bit about weblogs and online journals. Feel free to ask more specific questions of me, sheath, and anybody else.![]()
Good luck with your journal. I started one a few weeks ago - strictly private and it will stay that way - and I find it's an excellent way to remove things that are clogging up your consciousness.intrigued said:Then it's perfect for me because in my online life, I am considered a bitch no matter what I say, this will allow me to vent and talk and blurt, in peace.
I love the sigline advice. But ya know, I'll be ragged for that, too.![]()
I'm still waiting for you username, sweets, and while I'm in here...mwy, I havn't forgotten the thread you asked me to read. It's slow going, but I've been reading every chance i get. Thanks for the invite.![]()
Yup, that's why I still have a LiveJournal. I switched to Movable Type back in 2002 but I'm still updating my LJ daily with mirrors of the MT posts.Vixandra said:I keep a Xanga journal since all my friends are on that site and its easier to check them all from there then bounce between sites.

I have an online journal. For security reasons, the link has been removed temporarily from my signature line, but I will send you the link so you can see how it looks.
www.livejournal.com has always worked for me. It is very easy to handle, and allows a huge array of options. You can choose who you allow to see the journal, you can make it completely private, or you can let it remain public. You can choose whether to allow people to respond, and how to allow them to do that. It is a very flexible site. They also have a pay option, which allows you more options, but I have found the free option works just fine for my needs.
Good luck. And gimme the link when you start it.

Oh, hon, I'm skipping over most everything except for what YOU said.midwestyankee said:Good luck with your journal. I started one a few weeks ago - strictly private and it will stay that way - and I find it's an excellent way to remove things that are clogging up your consciousness.
As for that thread - yes, there's plenty to read. You have my permission to skip over all the mentions of baseball and other related tomfoolery that occasionally got posted there.

Don't do that. Many of the finest posts came from others like Wicked Woman, GiveawayGirl, Cathleen, and Dream. They kept me honest and gave me reasons to think harder.intrigued said:Oh, hon, I'm skipping over most everything except for what YOU said.
Thanks everyone, I am well on my way now, and hot damn, will it feel good.![]()
I'm sorry. The thread that intrigued and I have mentioned is called Defining Love in the Playground.Etoile said:I'm curious, what thread is being referenced? Is it about journaling? Self exploration?
SXCRgirl said:I too have an online journal on LJ. I don't post the link here because I just invite people with whom I feel totally comfortable sharing my life and my intimate thoughts.
It's a great tool for venting as it has helped me alot in so many ways. Plus, it also documents your life and you can see your progress (or in my case, my non-progress) with certain issues that you are dealing with.
It's free and you have lots of options as far as customization goes.

I disagree that there are lots of customization options. Free users get a very limited set of templates. Paid users can create their own styles (I made several a couple of years ago) but it's not easy to work with the coding system. Blogger and other services, on the other hand, let you put any HTML you want in there. LJ doesn't even let you have ********** or other fancy stuff, so you can't have rollovers or anything like that.SXCRgirl said:It's free and you have lots of options as far as customization goes.
