The walls of my father's mansion echoed with silence as I stepped in, still clutching the note that was given to me at the meeting concerning his will.
My father, Kevin Bridges, died when he got caught on the traintracks when the bars came down. What made it worse was the fact that he was hit by two trains passing each other. If the first one didn't, the second was Fate double-checking. His funeral was beautiful, well deserving of such a respected man.
Which was why I was shocked when I was the only one called in for the will and even further shocked when I discovered that all his life savings, one quarter shy of a million dollars, plus his assistant now belonged to me. The second part was why I was now searching my dad's house.
I walked through god-knows-how-many doors and god-knows-how many floors until I eventually gave up, collapsing onto the (very nice) guest room bed. Even as I stared up at the ceiling, it didn't make the assistant appear, The heck is she? I thought, before closing my eyes and beginning to dream of the past.
