Hey lex,

try using www.picasa2.com. It's a free program from google.

Once loaded, select the picture, choose "export to folder", then let it resize your photo to 800 pixels with 85 - 100% picture quality. When you open up that folder, the picture should be resized.

There are other options out there, but that one seems to work fine.
