Is There Still a Direct Messaging Function in the Forum?

I rarely used this in the past – occasionally to DM potential volunteer editors that hadn’t put their names on the VE list.

I see ‘Conversations’, but mine says “No recent conversations’, which is true. I’ve sent/received around a dozen DMs in 10+ years, so if these got flushed in the forum software changeover, that’s no big deal.

I can also see if I click on a User Name, one option is to ‘start conversation’, so this looks like how DMs work now. Are there any other differences to be aware of?

Some people might have DMs disabled, in which case you won’t be able to message them. You’ll need to ask them in a (publicly visible) forum post to enable it again if you want to contact them this way.

There are multiple ways to initiate a DM. ‘Start Conversation’ = DM

Thx to all who responded, particularly the ones who sent DMs. All my old DMs became visible when selecting Show All - now that I had some 'recent conversations'.
There were about 4 times as many as I remembered - so I'll refrain from making online statistical estimates in the future.
