Issue with upload

Hopefully someone can offer some guidance. I have emailed Support but so far no answer.

I'm trying to upload a story. The upload instructions say MS Word (.doc) format is accepted, but i can't seem to make it work. Whenever I upload my story it doesn't get parsed or posted. I've tried uploading only a portion, thinking the whole story was too long, but that doesn't work either.

In the past i exported stories as text files then uploaded those, but that's a lot of work: For some reason blank lines are ignored and so I have to edit through the whole thing on the website adding blank lines.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions to either the .doc upload issue or the blank line issue I'd really appreciate your assistance. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

I've always been successful in uploading MS Word .RTF files for my stories so since you're already using MS Word why not try saving your file as .RTF (rich text format) and see if it will upload for you.
It should look something like the below.

There won't be any preview text or anything in Story Text if you do a file upload, per @Duil2's screenshot, which seems to be what you're mentioning. Story Text is used for directly pasting in/writing into the text box. So even though you won't be able to see anything in Story Text or when trying to preview, it should accept it.

If that's still not working, you might want to try a .docx file or .rtf instead. The .doc file type is pretty old (though should still be handled I imagine), so see if that helps.

Hopefully that'll clear up your issue and you can get your story published. Good luck!

Story Text is used for directly pasting in/writing into the text box. So even though you won't be able to see anything in Story Text or when trying to preview, it should accept it.

If that's still not working, you might want to try a .docx file or .rtf instead. The .doc file type is pretty old (though should still be handled I imagine), so see if that helps.

Thanks. I've tried both .doc and .docx, neither show up anywhere. There is some upload link, but when I click that it's empty.

Thanks I'll try .rtf. In the text box next to "Select", where your story title is? In mine there is something similar but not exactly like my title. When I click on it I get an error, "file not found". Also doesn't show up anywhere else.

No, .rtf doesn't work either. When I upload the file it shows in the text box, but when I select "preview/publish" there's nothing there. Just doesn't work!

You can add extra blank lines very easily in MS Word. Find & Replace ^p with ^p^p (^p is the paragraph marker).

Adding blank lines in Word isn't the issue. The issue is, blank lines in a text file get removed when its uploaded.

If you upload a DOC, DOCX, or RTF file, you will not see anything in the story text box or on the preview screen. That doesn't matter, as long as there is a filename, you can go on to publish it.

Adding blank lines in Word isn't the issue. The issue is, blank lines in a text file get removed when its uploaded.

So don't upload a TXT file. Copy & paste into the Story Text box.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. I've posted about this in the tech support forum, and turned in a bug. As I wrote, I asked for help from Support, but a week in, no response.

I'm gonna go away for a week or so, then try again. Maybe the Universe is telling me to give up writing!

OK, that's a really weird one. Hope you get a resolution quickly.

In case you haven't tried them other things that I would try are:

• deleting all cookies
• using a different browser
• reinstalling your usual browser
