As for why the rules are in place, you'd have to talk to Laurel about it. She owns the site, she makes the rules!

She's also whom you would contact if you had a problem with the way moderators are doing their jobs...

I agree with you 100%! I know a few men who started threads only to have them deleted. While other guys, and girls get away with a hell of a lot more! SUch a shame.

I asked earlier if there had been any prosecutions for violations of the laws that Laurel is worried about. Has Literotica even been contacted?

Tumblr and other pic posting sites seem to hot link with impunity. Why would Literotica be worried?

I think it is a misinterpretation of the law

as 2257 requirements apply only to those who produce sexually explicit images, as defined in the statute. I don't think operating a message board could qualify as "producing" sexually explicit images.

As I have said before, mods cannot be everywhere at all times. I am the only mod here. If I see something that violates the rules, I handle it accordingly. If I don't see it, I can't do anything (obviously). It helps tremendously when other board members report threads that violate the rules, but I still evaluate each report individually, myself.

1) A double standard for gay porn - not at all. Again, I am the only mod here, and I guarantee you I have no interest in tackling gay or lesbian porn any more vigilantly than any other type. Perhaps I am more vigilant in my moderator duties overall, but that's because I take the job seriously where other mods may not. (I don't frequent most of the other forums, so I don't know.) Also, I moderate BDSM Talk/Cafe, and I handle threads there the same as I do here. I am a lesbian, who is into bondage, and who enjoys gay male porn (I was in a study on that once!). It would be shooting myself in the foot to alienate my own communities. So there is definitely no double standard. I'm just doing my job in the areas where I am tasked with it.

2) Has Lit been contacted - you mean by law enforcement? I have no idea. I know they have dealt with law enforcement regarding stalkers, which naturally a sex board has plenty of. (Post naughty pictures, and some crazy freak might track you down, I guess - I've been lucky to avoid that!) But as for being contacted about posting pictures they shouldn't, by other site owners or law enforcement, I have no idea. Laurel is very responsive to PMs, you should ask her.

3) Hotlinking - ask Laurel about that too. I have no idea why the rule is there, I just know that it is, and I enforce it, as a moderator. I guess it is about being a good internet citizen, because hotlinking does affect the hosting site (increases demands on their bandwidth without sending traffic to view the ads that pay for that bandwidth, for example), so Lit doesn't want to cause problems for other sites. But again, you'd have to ask Laurel.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the reasons for the rule, but as someone else mentioned, it wasn't always a rule, so I figured it was updated in response to the crackdown on 2257. I might be wrong. As I have said many times before, I am just enforcing rules that have been created by TPTB (Laurel and Manu) - I don't know why they created them.

Not at all (and that's kind of an insulting insinuation, BTW).

The rules are the rules for ALL of us in this forum. Etoile mods them equaly for ALL of us. If she misses something and you don't point it out to her (she is only one person after all) then don't bitch about it.

If you have issues with the rules, deal or or not that's up to you, but the rules here are made by Mama Kitty and it's her house, so we either abide or we can go.
