Italics and Formatting

I don't think I've ever seen a Lit page break in the middle of a paragraph. So if you always close out an HTML command in the same paragraph you open it, you'll probably be all right. If you want italics in consecutive paragraphs, apply the HTML to each paragraph individually.

That's probably what went wrong with the examples I saw - great swathes of italics (and bold, iirc) that hiccuped on a page break, and didn't fix itself until the next page break. It completely knackered the point of the italics.

A couple of words or phrases here and there, you're right, usually not a a problem; but I've got half a dozen chapters/stories where the coding, for whatever reason, was missed. It was inconsistent, too. I fixed a few with edits, but didn't bother with the rest. Since then, I rarely use italics, and only for a foreign language phrase - and bold, only for in-text chapter headings.

I've seen that. A description of a painting starts in italics at the bottom of a page, but loses that for the top of the next page. Odd.

I gave up trying to make Libre office RTFs play nice with Lit's ideas of paragraphs, so copy and paste text with HTML tags for italics. No problems, though often Preview shows me where I've not closed one properly.

It was mentioned that 'center' works as a HTML tag too, so I started using that with a short line of underscores as a section break.

The odd thing is, that then makes the next section of text after the end center tag, smaller than the rest on the page - sometimes I have to enlarge and scroll sideways on my phone to read it. So far it's only affected a paragraph or two so I'm happy to just run with it, but I'd like a nice neat way to break up sections that works on all sizes of screen - a short line on the left looks weird, and a longer one wraps over because you don't know how wide the reader's screen will be.
