I went to bed with visions of it/you in my head and I had to looked at it again this morning. It's just stunning..

Helen wasn't more beautiful than many women alive today, but women alive today are priveliged. We don't have to do hard physical labour than the women back then did. She was simple, yet not hardened by her life or work... and the war wasn't over the beauty of her face... her "kidnapping" was the last straw between Sparta and Troy... the last of a very long list of causes to that war.

Cleopatra wasn't beautiful, according to the face that was put onto coins... however no one seems to comment on how romanesque her face looks on those coins... Perhaps she was ugly because the roman people disliked her as they did...

Anyway, too early to completely formulate thoughts like that.

Yup- 8 operas from the Met next season, will be broadcasted into movie theatres across Canada and the US. I'm going to be buying season tickets.

I wasn't into opera either, when I started going. Not at all- which is weird, because when I was young, I was training as a sopprano. My best friend now sings opera, and she got me going to local performances.. and I just sort of picked it up. I think it's fabulous.

I think the main thing that put me off opera is the way most are sang in foreign languages and how unless you already know the story its nearly impossible to follow the plot. That said you gotta admire the power of the voices.

I got very sick and lost my voice. I don't sing much anymore.

As to the language barrier- the operas that are broadcast from the Met are subtitled! You can follow along just fine!
