An example of what I'm finding confusing...

“I get a very good price for each piece and I sell a lot of them.” The painter said, smiling over his shoulder, as they climbed to the second floor.

“They’re not faking that. They’re actually coming,” Stef informed him with a wide grin.

What is the diff here that means to use a period and cap on the first one but a comma and lower case on the second? I don't see the difference between them. It seems like they should both have a comma and "The" should be lower case.

the second one should be a full stop and not a comma. i missed it, sorry.

I don't agree with the ending mark with lack of capitlization, like this: "Is that a banana in your pocket?" she asked. what i know and what my own editors tell me, the 's' in 'she' should be capped.

Ok...that's it!! I've just found my damned limit! This punctuation stuff is bullshit! I've read two How Tos on the subject, my editor say different things and the people writing PCs on the How Tos say different things from what the How Tos say.

Believe me, I know how important punctuation is but everyone seems to have a different idea of what is correct and what isn't. How the fuck am I suposed to know how to do it when no one is capable of agreeing on the subject? No matter how I do it someone is going to bitch me out for doing it wrong.

I think the way you would do it is the way that I was doing it to begin with...I'd have to send you one of my other stories to be sure. I think I'm going to stick with you helping me with the technical side of editing and you should feel free to offer suggestions on the creative end if you have them and want to.
