Irish immigrants in the 1840s came from a Western, Christian civilization with centuries-old cultural, legal, and social structures, more advanced in the 1840s than the East African infrastructure of today. Somali migrants, arriving from this region, are still struggling with basic infrastructure and vastly different values, different from those embodied in our Constitution. Expecting the same seamless integration ignores the stark reality that these are two very different worlds, with wildly different starting points for adapting to American society. Thus proving you know nothing about the Irish, their native culture in Europe vis a vis the barbarity in East Africa.
