Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

A few random questions...

#1 Can the Doctor manufacture kryptonite? I assume she can if she fashioned the shift ship...or are their plot/cannon reasons for not being able to.

#2 Whose stronger, Green Lantern or Superman? Or does that depend on training/charge? I get a sense that GL has a higher upper bound but on average Superman wins?

#3 What's the "mental block" that holds Superman back all about?

#4 What kind of comics do the Mundies in Fable read? Are they superman and green lantern or random/unrelated? As in is there some circular references between and across Universes going on or is it more linear?

#1 Can the Doctor manufacture kryptonite? I assume she can if she fashioned the shift ship...or are their plot/cannon reasons for not being able to.

It's kind of hilarious that you asked this, because I have preparations to answer it in-game very soon. But just for the sake of showing I've done my homework:

It's been revealed in canon that Kryptonite is only super effective against Kryptonians from the same universe that it's from. For instance, Kryptonite from Earth-0 would be deadly to Superman of Krypton-0, but it would be significantly less effective against, say, Wondergirl of Earth-1 or Superman of Earth-16.

So, while The Doctor can absolutely generate Kryptonite radiation, she can only generate Kryptonite from the universe of Earth-14 and Krypton-14, so it will have minimal to negligible effects on a Kryptonian not from Universe-14.

She can, however, use magic and generate red sunlight.

#2 Whose stronger, Green Lantern or Superman? Or does that depend on training/charge? I get a sense that GL has a higher upper bound but on average Superman wins?

Ultimately, a Green Lantern is only limited by a) the charge in their ring, b) their courage and will, and c) their imagination. Potentially, any Green Lantern could be much, much more powerful than Superman-- except perhaps for All-Star Superman, Superman One Million, Golden Superman, or any of the Pre-Crisis Super-family. However, a GL must also maintain absolute focus to achieve their maximum Power Ring output, so if a Superman were to disrupt their concentration somehow their constructs would falter and Superwhoever would gain the upper hand with a speeding-bullet quickness.

On the other hand, some Green Lanterns are Daxamites, and GLs, too, can generate Kryptonite radiation from their respective universes.

#3 What's the "mental block" that holds Superman back all about?

It varies from continuity to continuity. Mostly it's just a way to explain that while Superman is supremely powerful, he could be even more powerful if he wasn't constantly exercising self-discipline to hold himself back. "All my life, I've lived in a world made of cardboard..." But when that block comes down, major Big Bads should probably just lay down now and save themselves the trouble.

Vic has said that his Jon Kent has a mental block rather like the one pre-Flashpoint Wally West had after his Barry Allen died, preventing him from surpassing/replacing his idol by becoming as fast as or faster than he did. Though of course Wally eventually overcame this block to take down The Reverse-Flash and prevent Thawne from replacing Barry instead, just as Jon may someday overcome his mental block and become even stronger than his father, Clark Kent of Earth-247.

In at least one major continuity, the mental block was against killing and he actually had a mental breakdown when he was forced to slay a trio of Kryptonian villains to prevent them from invading his universe.

#4 What kind of comics do the Mundies in Fable read? Are they superman and green lantern or random/unrelated? As in is there some circular references between and across Universes going on or is it more linear?

Also funny you should ask this, because I've been starting to plant seeds along these lines.

In "The Multiversity," which is of course a massive influence on Legend's original concept and the very thing I've run with in carrying on the story, comics tend to "bleed" across the universes. Heroes from one Earth may read comics about heroes from another.

Earth-33 is the (...mostly...) "nonfictional" hub for the "fictional" universes of The Orrery (and the potentially-infinite sub-Orrery spawned off of Earth-14), so all comics that would be present in the real world (the one we're writing from) should also be present there. DC, Dark Horse, Marvel, Image, IDW, et cetera, et al, are each implied to represent and chronicle the events of Earths within The New Wave Multiverse. But it also includes Major Comics and their Essential Major Comics imprint, which represent and chronicle Earth-8 and Earth-7, respectively (and are analogues/pastiches of Marvel and Ultimate Marvel), and also the mysterious Ultra Comics. As Earth-27 is meant to be a treasure-house of story (a book depository?) and subtly and profoundly interconnected with Dream and The Dreaming in the sense of blurring the boundaries of fantasy and reality, it can also be suggested that the Mundies would be able to read most if not all of the comics produced by Earth-33.

Hey!

HEY!

We made it to 52 pages in the main thread! That's gotta be some kind of milestone, you guys/girls/enbees!

Amazing, flabbergasting work!

I  you all!

Not much, but best I can do with my sleep deprived mind as well as the pain my knees are in right now.

I think that's basically everyone except Static.

(Again, not to call anyone out or whatever, just rowing ducks.)

The current plan is to go ahead with the mission briefing on Wednesday, barring any unforeseenery, and if Static can't join us by then we can get him there later.

Right now, I am tired and am going to bed.

Hope to write tomorrow and set some stages.

So here's a fun thing for Zet!

When he originally pitched the character to me he wanted a male version of Samus Aran from Metroid, or at least a new male character that had inherited Samus' armor.

In order to bring that character more into the DC Universe I suggested that Samus be a female clone of Brainiac and that the armor was sent out so that this heir-- Milton --could rescue her.

To represent this female clone, we used images of Brainiac 5's mother and Lena Luthor possessed by Brainiac 13. Both of whom are statuesque blondes.

So kind of recently I realized that if we were going to use a statuesque blonde to represent Samus, why shouldn't it *be* Samus? And I sent out feelers into what passes for my friends list for people who would be able to photoshop an image of Samus out of her armor into a green-skinned Coluan.

I wasn't expecting much of a response but what response I did get blew me away! Had a bunch of people make images based on this template-- one of whom was our very own Lunaramblings --and here are the results!

So, Zet, I hope you like this. If you like we can edit your favorite images into Milton's bio to represent Lysl, but in any case I think these are a much cooler representation of Lysl than the images we found before!

I'm a big fan of #4, that floaty brain thing adds some panache! All of them are stellar work.

Number 3 was my attempt. Wasn't the best photoshop I have done, but I thought it came out ok.

I actually liked yours a whole lot!

I liked that the hand blaster was the same color as her suit, and the shade of green you used for her skin.

But I figured I would give Zet the chance to choose his preference, considering she's his supporting character.

The floaty brain thing is one of the eponymous "Metroid" creatures after which Samus Aran's game franchise is named. They feed off of life energy.

But in the spirit of DCifying all the "Metroid" characters I would suggest that in this context that's a subspecies of Gil'Dishpan. =D

Wyld may appreciate the fact that I asked for Lysl's insignia to be yellow as a nod to the L.E.G.I.O.N. emblem. ;)
