Kalifornication

I went to the doctors today, yay for cold season. I know, not very exciting. Anyone here on the thread watch the HBO show Big Love?

I've heard about it, but never watched it

I think I need to go to the Dr. I feel something wicked this way coming...

Nah, I only get to watch TV when I'm at home, and only if I'm lucky.

Hope you feel better soon. :) :rose:

You two are sheltered! Thank you Trombonus, feel free to drop by with some noodle soup. :D

So... does that mean you are going for the day care fantasy tonight? Or does it mean you just need some TLC. ;p

"Big Love" is wonderful... though I have a few reservations about the occasionally gimmicky plot twists, the actors are incredible and the show does a great job of bringing to prime time characters whose life choices are usually at least marginalized and frequently shunned. Chloe Sevigny gets on my nerves a bit as she's so frequently morose, but she does such a good job that I almost don't mind....

Hello to all my fellow Californians... hope everyone is having a great day. I haven't been on the site in some time (was here mainly for chat before and didn't post, I don't think), but decided to check in. A sunny but chilly day here in Sac... nice as long as you're bundled up! :)

Edit: as long as you consider Sundays on HBO "prime time," that is.... they certainly are for me! :D

wow, I wish. that actually sounds kinda fun... A day care fantasy would be to much like Rugrats.... But some TLC would be great.

Hey Elvis, where you from? I'm from Northern California too. North of Sacramento. I'm strictly straight, but if I find a couple of hot babes, I'll share. :)

I sure wish they would bring back Carnivale. Did you happen to catch that series?

After living in Ohio for 7 years (hooray -5 in january) I guess I consider this weather balmy and comfortable. Was it the cold that made you hate getting out of bed Lucky, or something else. *nudge*

Prolly a little of both, but a warm bed is a warm bed. But an "occupied" bed is always "hard" to get out of.... ;)

Wouldn't you agree?

I did manage to see "Carnivale" a few times during its run, but I didn't start from the beginning and was never able to really catch the show's flow. I think the first season's out on DVD now? Something I'll have to check out. Virtually every HBO drama over the last seven or eight years has been terrific - great production values, wonderful acting and unbeatable writing ("The Wire," particularly, in that latter category, with writers like Lehane and Pelecanos), and I can't imagine that "Carnivale" would be markedly less successful.

HBO's been hijacking my Sunday nights for some years now... of course, I've been a "60 Minutes" junkie since childhood, but I don't mention that too often as I don't want to appear any more geriatric than my already semi-advanced age of 36 would indicate.... ;) So it's CBS's venerable news hour on Sundays, followed by whatever the cable Goliath brings my way. Not a bad way to segue into the work week, really.

I hope you're having a great evening! :)

I agree. I really dont watch much TV but if there ever was a series I'd sit down and make the time to watch it was an HBO series. Sex in the City, Carnivale, now Big Love. I never could get into Rome or Deadwood, dunno why.

Thanks for reminding me about "Rome"... that's another HBO series I've never really gotten into, either. Again, though, that may be more a function of not having watched it from the beginning and having been rather lost whenever I tried to catch up. "Deadwood," though, is stunning; it's damn close to "The Wire" qualitatively, and maybe just as good. Ian McShane won an Emmy a couple of years ago, I believe, and it was deserved; his portrayal of Swearingen is one of the more powerful performances I've seen on the screen, big or small, in many years. The ensemble cast is typically strong, and if you're into history at all you'll appreciate the truth David Milch tries to bring to the show: not a literal recreation, but an evocation of the spirit of the age. Great stuff - most of my friends love it as well.

Have you tried to watch "Sex and the City" since they began airing it on regular cable? Quite amusing to see them try to edit some of the more tasty themes! :) I'll be interested to see if they even bother to try to clean up some of the more adventurous episodes....

Take care!

I have watched it as a fall back on those nights when absolutely nothing else is on. I cant decide whether to sigh or cry. I've seen bad editing, but my god. When I first saw that it would air on regular cable I was shocked. "How can they even make that acceptable to viewers?" I thought to myself.

Well, some roses are better left unpruned.
