ketchup or catsup

HMMMM

Funny story, and true.

When I first retired I took a job at a convenience store unloading the grocery truck. So a Mexican and his gurl comes in one day, and he wants to know where the condiments are. And I point to our food court.

"No! Senor; condiments."

I point to the food court again.

His gurl then blurts out to me, "Not condiments, you oaf! Condoms!"

I've seen them offered with sauerkraut
 Isn't mustard and sauerkraut standard for hot dogs? I mean, so far as I know, every hot dog vendor on East or West coast offers sauerkraut as one of the most common condiments for hot dogs (the others being mustard, relish, onions and sometimes chili for chili dogs).

I guess I kinda thought that sauerkraut was given as far as hot dog condiment choices went. And one of my faves come to that. Sauerkraut, onions and mustard.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, hash browns... Well, almost any kind of fried potato, really. Once during sex, but I try to forget that.

Cats up where?

It's ketchup and nothing else.

And you use it as a taste neutralizer. Put it on stuff that taste bad and it taste a little less bad. Put it on stuff that taste good, and it tastes a little less good.

It's full of flavanoids and good for your heart (in moderation).

What the hell is catsup? :) Never heard of it...

Ketchup, definitely. Although here in the UK you'll hear it referrred to as red sauce. Not by me, of course :D

As far as spelling goes, I just looked in my refrigerator and Heinz spells it ketchup. For other countries YMMV.

Heinz spells it ketchup? Well, that settles it. Ketchup it is. (I've always spelled it that way).

BUXXOM

Where are you, in the South Bronx?

The law in every Southern state is hot dogs may be served with mustard & relish OR chilli & onions, and no other way. Use of any other condiment is a 3rd degree felony.

What about hot dogs and sauerkraut?

An ill-fated research reveals that ketchup originated in china, but without tomatoes. akin to soy and something else. And the pronounciation was closer to catsup than our current ketchup. I forget the rest and didn't get the link.
So I guess it's either. See? Research ruins everything.

My wife loves it and spells it with a "K". I personally never touch the stuff. I replaced it with Hot Sauce too many years ago. (Where you use the Ketchup I use Tobascoe. Nice and mild with some flavor.)

My Hot Dog of choice? A Publix Brand Dog wrapped in Swiss and covered with Onions and Tobascoe. (Although a close second would have it slathered with Texas Petes Weiner Sauce.)

Cat

Really? I hope Texas Pete's Weiner sauce isn't the same as their chili--I got some of that once and thought it purely sucked.

I'll have to try the Swiis cheese idea.

I read somewhere that people used to make ketchup out of any and everything.

Have you tried Hebrew National hot dogs? Maybe with Cheddar or Tillamook.

I thought catsup is what the cat did when you put food in it's bowl. :D

Slaw dogs don't need ketchup--chili dogs either.

It's strictly for french fries and bad meat loaf.

Tabasco sauce, cheese, sauerkraut...you people are sick & twisted scofflaws. Corn Dogs are the one exception the law allows, and you better dip um in mustard!

And you can put it on stuff that tastes good and make it taste even BETTER, like on black-eyed peas.

My son has a friend who occasionally comes over and has supper with us. I think he thinks my cooking is a tad exotic for his tastes because he puts ketchup on EVERYTHING that isn't dessert.

Cats up on the armoire and occasionally the closet shelf, here.

Whichever you call it, it's also good on pork and beans or baked beans. :)

Okay on hotdogs, I'm a mustard, green relish, onions and tomato kind of guy. Good on hamburgers!

Food of the gods. Use it on everything. Great on leftover pizza heated up in the oven.

As for how you spell it... it's gone before I can even think about it... ;)
