With a quick jump from his warhorse Rorthar went towards the direction of the attack, his shield in front of him ready to block incoming attacks, his holy sword at the ready.
"Rorthar, don't move, this will exaust my mana, but I am going to put a temprary shield around us", Lokken told them." Anyone who walks into the shield will be obliterated, I can move the shield at will, though. I suppose I can keep it up for ten minutes", he continued. Then a blue swirling orb encircled them and when they began to move, it kept pace with them.
After what seemed like an eternity of riding, Garret was dragged out of the bag.
His hands and feet were tied, very tight. He didn't bother trying to break them. Garret looked around.
This was someplace new, Garret had never seen this part of the forest before.
There were five dwarves, not including Elvan. Garret looked in pure horror as he saw they were all building, what looked like a platform, right under a huge tree branch. He could see there was a noose hanging over that branch.
He swallowed, hard.
"Why are you doing this?"
Elvan looked at him, pondering, "Well, I know that dwarf killing crap won't sail with you. Ok, the real reason is you are on a mission, to join your land with this one."
Garret nodded, wondering what his death had to do with any of this.
"This land has long since had fights with the land of the dwarves. We have since not been in war because our arms are equal. It would be a fruitless and stupid battle. Thats why we have to stop this alliance. If your land joins this one, then they will have enought power to destroy us."
Garret looked at them in awe, "You are all crazy. We are not joing forces to kill you, we just don't want a war between us, this has nothing to do with dwarves."
He smirked, "Sure, human lies. Grab him, we kill him now, before he says any more lies."
Garret tried to struggle, but it was worthless. In no time, his neck was on a noose, and he was standing on a poorly made platform, it felt as if it were going to crack under his weight at any second. Garret cringed.
Just then a dwarf came running into the campsite, "His friends, they are coming."
Elvan pondered, "Well, it is earlier than I expected, but that doesn't defer anything, we go according to plan. As soon as you see them, hang him."
Garret swallowed again, as he heard approaching hoofbeats.
The shield broke ten minutes later. They changed to a gallop. Soon they had entered a clearing. Garret was suddenly dropped and started to choke. Lokken quikly pulled out his bow and loaded it." Stand around me" he screamed to the others. He took aim and fired. It sliced neatly through the rope and Garret dropped. "Fuck!" yelled Lokken, holding his head.
Roland: i have been forgotten, but not for long!
"YEEEEEEEEHA!!!!" i rode behind the dwarves scaring the life out of them and let fly with a burst arrow severing the rope of the noose as i rode up i found the rest of my companions were there and ready to fight i flashed out the master sword and prepared for battle
"Don't kill unless you have to!" Yelled Vixen, dodging a blade just in time. "Remember why we are here damn it!"
She sang briefly conjuring up the words as she channelled the one magickal spell she had she knew wouldn't kill anyone. She felt the air charging up around her hand... with a wish and a prayer she let it fly. The static charge stunned several of her would-be attackers but didn't kill them. They staggered, the weaker one's falling to their knees. She turned her horse towards Valdor and the others. He looked exeedingly pleased to see her, she wondered why until she noted Sith still trying to talk to him about something. She rolled her eyes, he hadn't been so stupid as to ask Sith a question had he? One look at Glorianna's terribly amused expression told her that he had.
"GLORI!" She cried... "Quickly! Try and talk some sense to them before someone is killed! I can't hold back Lokken, Roland and Rothrar much longer!"
"Mansard... check on Garret if you can get to him!"
Roland: "Damnit Vixen they took Garret!!!.....ok i will talk as i now see the true nature of my mission..but be on your guard there are orcs around here..and i dont drop my bow for anyone but the king of his lands." i re-armed my bow and Aimed it at the dwarves and didnt waver one bit....
She dropped to the ground and ran into the fray. Dropping to one knee in front of what seemed to be the leader. He welded a very large sword and could if he wanted to, slice her in two. At the moment, he just looked at her like she was crazy.
"Sire, I am Princess Glorianna of Elbonia. Niece of King Morphius and Queen Putulia. Please, sire, we come in peace and mean no harm to anyone in these lands. I would cry peace." her voice was soft, mesmerizing the dwarf in front of her. "Please, I beg of you. I have lost so many people in my life to war. Please do not take another one from me. I only want peace in this land. Nothing more but sweet peace for all." She looked at him then. Her eyes bright with a violet fire all their own. Pleading and soft with a virtue she didn't know she possessed.
Glorianna was so intent she did not notice what was happening around her. The dwarves had stopped their attack, watching in awe as a beautiful, young girl kneeled defenseless in front of their leader. They had never witnessed such courage from anyone before. The men they usually saw had their swords raised in war, but this girl was bowed humbly in front of them in peace.
Her companions saw a sight not likely to be repeated. Glorianna had no weapon except the power of her eyes. She was an innocent in many ways. It gave her an advantage. She could work a magic on creatures with nothing more than her eyes and her soft voice. Men, women, children, animals. They were all effected.
When Glori had first entered, her friends had gone into protective mode. Vixen had reached for her knives. The others for magic, and Valdor had stopped breathing. He now knew what drew him to this slip of a girl. Her selflessness to help others at the risk of her own life.
The dwarf leader slowly lowered his sword, and motioned with his hands, and they were gone. Every dwarf that had been about to attack was gone. For how long the group didn't know. It was a gift from above.
Glori stood and walked to where Garret lay on the ground. Sitting next to him, she whispered softly to him. "Wake up, brave one. You are safe once more."
His eyes opened slowly, and he could have sworn an angel stood watch over him.
IC:
"My good woman, I am afraid that was rash and stupid, but I will admit there is a tone of magic inside of you. It's called Charm magic, quite powerful, when used correctly. Will you enter as my apprentice as Vixen once did Roland?" Lokken told her, eyeing her up and down and detecting an incredible amount of raw mana in her.
Valdor finally felt his breath expell, only then realising how tightly he had kept it in his chest. She was... amazing... truely. He was slightly in awe of the raw intenstity of her now. He looked at himself now in a different light, how could anyone so pure want someone like him? He thought. He was insane to harrass her like he did, yet... yet he couldn't deny the pull he felt, the passion. Should he in fact deny it? For her sake? She was royalty no less. He watched as she urged Garret's fallen body to awaken. At the very least, he could commit his life to her's as she so easily did for others. Someone had to, and this... this feeling he had for her... whatever it was or meant... he would use it to care for and protect her even as his sister did.
************
Vixen couldn't believe her eyes. She felt a new found respect and awe for her friend. She noticed her hands still clenched her knives. She looked around seeing they were indeed safe for now. She let them go and looked around. She looked into Roland's eyes as he too lowered his weapon. He shook his head at her as if unable to answer the unspoken question in Vixen's eyes.
Vixen shook herself out of her stunned stupor. "Is everybody safe? No injuries?" She asked in general, looking over at Sith, Mansard, Lokken and the others...
Trembling she slid off her horse, only then realising how hard it was to hold back everybody only to watch as her friend threw herself before the leader. She sank to her knees and felt a furry face press into her cheek. She was too grateful to be startled, she accepted the big cat's attempt at comfort and hugged him back. She wasn't so sure now she was up to leading this group of talented people. Who had she been kidding anyway? She was an assassin, by her very nature, she was a loner. Why had she even volunteered? Originally for the money, yes... now... now these people were starting to feel too close... she cared... damn it... she cared about them all.
She stood up again. "Okay... we've got to get Garret back to the village..." She turned to Rothrar and he saw the uncertainty in her eyes... "do you agree?" She asked him. He was surprised, but managed to hide it. "Yes." He said gruffly, let's move..."
Roland: why cant i shake it...its incredable..that someone could have THAT MUCH natural talent..even as a paladins child she couldnt have that much ...what is inside of her...its just way too powerful for words.. "Actually Lokken i would suggest That Sith train her as he is far more adept in charm magic" i said with a hint of slyness..but i am just too damned curious on how she attained such power.......but...this is far too strange for words...i gotta think about this later..maybe this was a test? nay the Ku-rathians do not employ dwarves for any reason...but what then..i must have dazed off because a few travelers were staring at me
"I, on the other hand, suggest that we allow her to decide if she wants to be trained and by whom. Maybe a paladin training, or even no training at all could be the best. I'm not sure if her natural abilities would not be dampened by magical training." said Sith moving his head from side to side.
Mansard bows to Glorianna, "I'll get him My Lady." He stands Garett up and tosses him over his shoulder.
"Come on let's get back to the village. Looks like you could use a drink."
"I can walk you know."
"Oh, sorry." Helping him up on Lightening and then mounting behind him they started back.
She didn't understand anything they were saying. Magic? HER? She didn't like magic. It made her nervous. People killed for magic sometimes. Someone had come to her home and destroyed her life all for magic.
A sadness came over her, blanketing her eyes as she spoke. "I thank you gentlemen, but I must decline. I don't wish to charm anyone. I want them to make desicions on their own, it shows the true face of their characters." She swept them a curtsy and went back to Jafar, wanting to get back to the village. She wanted to check on Marietta and Pierce.
Roland: i shook my head,
"She may not like magic.. but she sure as hell has it..and lots of it at that...if she dosent want there isnt anything i can do. she will continue to use this magic she wont admit she possesses and it may very well be our downfall..." i frowned a bit and was still trying to figure out why she hadent felt the immense power she had eminated, i mean any rag tag group in the woods could have felt that and yet it didnt even phase her....charm magic...something i will have to learn more about.....but for right now i gotta stay alert..that little bit of voodoo that she do snaped me back to reality and now i have to stay on full alert, lest i become entranced in her gaze again.......snap out of it roland...you have to keep her busy, untill you can extract that Raw Magikal energy....but how to go about it...hmmmmmmm
" I suggest that all of us mages have a little conversation. We actually have a few subjects to discuss", Lokken said looking at Sith, Roland, and the departing Glorianna once again. "How about now, right here?" he asked.
Mansard, making haste back to the village with Garett, sniffs the air.
"You smell that Garett."
"Yes, it's...smoke! The village!" The small man spurs Lightening to a run. The men hang on for life as the sturdy gelding builds speed, bursting through the woods.
Soon some flames could be seen throough the trees. The horse makes a mighty jump across the creek parreling the village and lands in stride galloping into the town.
"Woa! Ho Lightening." Mansard and Garett leap from the horse and run toward the inn, only to find it in ruins.
"Marietta and Pierce were to stay at the inn. Garett, you search left side I'll circle right."
"Ok Mansard. Princess! Pierce! Where are you!"
The small man walks through the ruins of the village visably shaken. "Who would do this...Why? We never should have left them alone. Goddess!" Mansard comes upon a man he remembers from the party laying by a well. The man has a vicious chest wound and will die. Mansard comforts him as best he can.
"Do you know where our friends are?" Mansard kneeling holds the weakened man up.
"They..were.. taken.."
"Who! Who took them?"
"The Patricians...men...came...found them..."
"They burned the village?"
"No...was a ..mage green robe...tall green hat..he laughted as he ...killed.." The man was finished.
"Landstaff!" Mansard spit. Landstaff, one of the Patricians triad. A vile and powerful mage who had placed the curse on Mansard. "I'll kill you Landstaff! I'll hunt you down!"
Vixen pulled in her horse just as she heard Mansard's shouted promise. "No you won't Mansard," she said her face neutral, "don't forget who you're contracted too... if we're lucky enough to have him get in our way... by all means... I shall leave his penance to you... but you will follow the team... understood?"
She felt a right bitch, she knew how lusty the need for revenge could be, she also knew that it was a distraction the group didn't need after finally bonding together as they had. Mansard growled a rather choice saying... causing even Vixen to look startled. She giggled then, "dear Mansard... " she said shaking her head... "I do pray you get your revenge on him... but first things first..."
The others arrived all looking worried. "We have a lead... we know they've been taken..." she watched Glorianna gasp, and go deathly pale. Valdor was quickly at her side supporting her, his touch... comforting but not intruding. "I'm sorry Glori... we'll get them back... don't worry... but have faith and trust in us..." Vixen's eyes were fierce with a passion she never knew she had. Glori nodded, but her eyes were filled with dread.
"Where are Sith, Roland and Lokken?"
"I think they are discussing something..." Rothrar replied.
"What the hell could they be discussing now?"
Rothrar shrugged.
"Mansard... where do you think they'd be taken? How long to get there... what kind of defenses would they have? Is Garret fit to travel?"
Vixen's mind was whirling as she considered all the angles, leaving her no time for the luxury of uncertainty.
She turned to grip Rothrar's arm... "Goddess help us, it is like we are cursed, every step we take disaster..."
He nodded.

VALDOR....
"M'Lady Glorianna... I know.... I know you have no love for me... and I now understand why," he lifted his hand to stop her from speaking..."I understand... and I also want you to know... that where I come from, when a man... cares as I do for you... and he knows he has not the blood lines, nor the affection required from that person... he can do only one other thing... I'm pledging my allegiance to you my Princess... my life... to protect yours as you so selfishly protect others... do not deny me this... I will ask Vixen to witness the proper proceedure in due course... until then, you will see... I will use all that I am to return your loved ones back into yours arms safely... on my honour!"
Valdor lowered his head respectfully, placing a chaste kiss on her palm. The guesture all too intimate and seductive in it's innocence. Seeing she was stunned at his words, but no longer pale. He left her side to talk to Vixen. Vixen frowned as she listened to his words... she glanced over at Glorianna in surprise then she listened again. She turned away from her brother as they all collected their additional weapons and supplies.
"Vixen, this mage, Landstaff, has a fortress 3 days ride north. It is blended into the side of a moutain. He hides it in illusions. His power is great, his control is of the earth. If they took them there it will be dire.....the Patrician might be moving them to the border. Either way we must move north." Mansard turned to walk away. "I've got to find my pack horses."
His pledge stole her breath and her heart. As much as she wanted to hide her feelings she now knew. She loved him. Loved him with the fierceness that her parents had loved each other. And she promised herself that when the time was right she would tell him. Unlike her cousins, she was free to choose who she could give her love to. But now was not the time to ponder this or her feelings for Valdor. She had to consentrate on Marietta and Pierce.
Glori listened to Mansard and what he said about this mage. As much as she hated magic, she knew that's what it would take to get her cousins back. Lokken, Sith, and Roland seemed to think she possessed strong magic. Charm magic. Could she use this to get her cousins back.
"Mansard."
"Yes M'lady?"
"How strong is this mage?"
He did not lie to her. "He is very strong. One of the strongest I have ever met. Why do you ask?"
"I want to know if this magic, Lokken and the others say I possess will work on him. Maybe I could charm him and allow the others to enter his castle."
Mansard shook his head. "It is something to consider, but I must warn you, He is not easily charmed, seduced, or defeated. This will not be an easy task."
Glorianna's shoulders drouped. She would speak with the others and pray that the Goddess would keep her cousins safe. She hoped someone had a plan to save them.
Vixen rode up to Glorianna. She was stunned by Valdor's request that she witness his bonding to her friend. She looked at her differently now, she felt almost... shy. She stiffled the feeling as she saw the droop to Glorianna's shoulders. "Glori... 'tis okay... we WILL save them," her words were fervent... and confident. Glori attempted a tremulous smile. Vixen thanked the goddess for her friends bravery.
"I overheard your words to Mansard... can I offer my advice? I'm the first to admit... I agree with your... I have no real love or interest in magick... I learnt... I admit... under protest, from Roland, what he could teach me. I saw his frustration with my lack of enthusiasm." She giggled at the memory, "he cursed in languages I haven't even heard of!" Glorianna smiled at this. "Anyway, all I can say... he saw a natural talent in me, but it was one... that was limited by my mind... my feelings... you... you're different... but I'd take Sith's words seriously."
Glorianna looked up in surprise... Vixen laughed... "yes I know... he can be very long winded... but because of that, people fail to see the truth, the wisdom in his words... you only think about your possible magick now... when perhaps... perhaps the strength lies in you not thinking of it as a magick, but as a skill... a talent... it is your passion in then end that drives it... that will decide how strong you are. I've no doubt this mage is powerful. I wish there was some way we could know for sure where the prince & princess were... I don't relish trying to enter his stronghold... he will be at his strongest there... " Vixen sighed, "but our plan is sound, at least we have Mansard... his knowlege puts us forward..." She smiled comfortingly at Glorianna... there was a mutual pause as they both digested what was ahead of them. "Glorianna," Vixen used her full name, "my... my brother... told me of his pledge to you... " she looked at Glori carefully, seeing the blush, the eyes flickering down to cover her feelings. Vixen sighed, "I... I won't deny him this... I will witness the proceedings... because... I know him... I know that passion... he will not be wavered... but I fear for him, he... he's ... this pledge he makes... it is no small thing... it rarely even happens where we come from anymore, the depth of the promise is so strong, so deep... not many will take it... do you understand what I'm saying?" Vixen smiled, she did have such affection for this woman, she admired her strength so much, she only hoped that strength would not be tarnished, or weakened by this journeys end. "Anyway... " Vixen noticed Mansard returning, "we must concentrate on the problem at hand... the safe return of the Prince & Princess!" She went to Rothrar to help organise, leaving Glorianna to her thoughts.
Roland: With our discussion compleate i got out my scrying glass
"What the Devil is this Your Eminence? is this your doing?"
"My dear roland you know i cannot awanser that."
"I know your eminence, i apolgize i was flustered"
i put it away and waved my hand through the air trying to detect some sort of mana trail....i could find only a faint one and it soon dissipated...Damnit all..i quickly got out the magic map witch gave me a good look at the surroundings of about 100 miles....hmm there are abou three possible sites where they could be...i walked towards the Inn and serched through finding nothing...then out of the corner of my eye i saw a note..totaly unscathed..this was odd..it was from the village elder addressed to me...
"Roland, i write this in haste for there are strange horsemen at the walls of our town, they have slain many but your hero friends had slain many of them as well before they were captured..we were able to hold the inn until the wizard came, thus i wrote this note...we last saw the prisioners being moved north towards StormWind Keep, but we are unsure if that is where they are...I have spent many years in your service and am glad i died in your name..Good bye my friend.
Lucifa.."
"Thank you old friend..your death shall not be in vain..." i walked out of the ruins and reported my findings to the others.
