Knee replacement and go......

You will definitely be feeling pain since the doctor will be bending your muscles in directions they normally don't go in. Don't be afraid to take your pain meds. Pay attention to when you can take your next pain med and take it on time. This will keep the therapeutic levels up where they are doing good. Attend all of your rehab appointments. Follow rehab's instructions for home exercise.

Good luck and here's to a speedy recovery!

I'm going in for an MRI on my knee next week. It's a hot mess, literally and figuratively.

If possible, get the crutches adjusted before your surgery, practice a pit. Listen to the PT about how to use crutches. They jam I to your ribcage, not your armpits. Practice a bit if you can before surgery.

They haven't used crutches for knee replacement surgery in decades, dummy. As Dr. Timmeh likes to tell you, "try and keep up with the class".

I have a friend who had a knee replacement last summer. She was up and walking again in a day or 2 and didn't need the pain meds. She still did all the rehab to be sure there weren't any issues or complications. Those folks have the experience to know if everything is working correctly or not.

If you want to be funny, get a plastic zipper pull and tape it at the bottom of your incision when you go see the doc for your postop visit.

If you really wanted to, you could even have one tattooed there once you heal completely.

Advice???

Thursday's the big day.
My wife had both of hers replaced in 2013 and she will tell you that it's best thing she ever did!! Like some have said, do the therapy and don't cheat on it. We've seen so many people who didn't do the therapy as they should have and have lost range of motion and now can't straighten their leg. To watch my wife walk now you would never know she had a replacement.

I have no advice, but I hope all goes well for you! I have heard of you're going to do it and both need to be operated on, it's best to get them both done at once. But I can't imagine that's helpful to you now.

Follow the advice of your doctor and physio. Do the rehab religiously.

It is major surgery, all the best.

I asked and he didn't want to do them both at the same time.

I asked and he didn't want to do them both at the same time.

One of my friends had both done and it was really bad. He was supposed to be off work for 3 months and he was off for over 6.

My wife had both done at the same time. I think it worked out well.

I have complications due to my weight, diabetes and I've had a blood clot before. He's afraid and I respect him for thinking of me.

I’m glad to see so many folks say listen to the advice of medical experts!

I do not have any advice to offer, but wish you the speediest of recoveries, beautiful!

Hope all goes well with the procedure, pink.

I’ll echo the comments already made about the physical therapy. It’ll be a tough haul, but stick with it.

Have a healthy, speedy recovery.

I'll be using a walker.

Yeah, you’ll need a walker for about a week to ten days. It will hurt like holy hell during that period. Sleep as close to the bathroom as you can because every time you have to move it’s torture. Oh, and make sure they operate on the correct knee; that always helps.

Not me, but I was the home caregiver.

First, have the doctor certify that there is no cobalt in the appliance. zero, nada, none! I have friends with issues because of cobalt and one of them has it in his knee appliance.

Do the PT! Get your range back. It's gonna hurt. Suck it up. The rehab person is your friend even though it hurts like hell.

I'll do it, I promise.

Make sure the red arrow on the replacement points the same direction your tummy does. Or, since this is Lit and all, your boobs.

I'll tell my Dr, for sure.

no advice, pinkie, just best wishes for a swift op and recovery. bionic knee? awesome

just think how lucky we all are nowadays to be able to access this kind of op rather than go through years of bone-on-bone agony parents and grandparents may have endured!

Oh I know. This has been a long time coming and I dread this surgery.

Just from patients who have had it....do all the physical therapy. They will make sure that you are able to bend the knee as it should be bent. I have had people stop therapy and then be upset that their knee isn't bending as it should. If pain is making you want to stop therapy, let the doctor know.

Sending good thoughts your way for the surgery and your recovery.

I'm a wuss but I'll tough it out.

No words of wisdom but best wishes! Hope all goes well for you.

Thank you so much.

Didn't you just have shingles a week or so ago???

Good luck with the knee, but watch out for post op infection.

My friend had knee surgery and then got an infection that set back his recovery by many months.

He's keeping me overnight for observation. I do have some negative things which could happen. He's being careful.

Today I learned from this thread that quite a number of GB folks have replacement body parts.
