Know if you're pregnant.

You know, other than being late for a few weeks. I haven't taken a pregnancy test and I've been very calm about it because well... I just dont feel anything out of the ordinary and yeah I'm stupid enough to have had sex without protection.

So how can you tell? On the earlier stages?

The only way to know for sure is to get a test. You can't rely on symptoms as they vary from person to person and could mean something other than pregnancy as well.

And if you don't want to spend a lot on tests, the ones from the dollar store work surprisingly well. I didn't believe the lady who told me this, but then I tried them myself, and they were just as accurate and clear as the more expensive line tests.

Even though it's not necessary, it's best to test with the first urine of the morning when your hormones are most concentrated.

And if you get a negative test and still don't get your period in a couple of weeks, test again and/or see your doctor (which is probably a good idea anyway if your current BC method isn't working well for you). I had one pregnancy that didn't show up with the first test within the first two weeks of my period being late - apparently my hormones rose more slowly on that one.

Wolf's Rain was awesome *swoons at the looks of wild wolves*

Anyway, I'll basicly echo what Erika said, the cheap ones from the drugstore worked like a charm for me.
Mine showed pretty much instantly, when I got the idea that I perhaps was indeed pregnant. Still not sure if that was because of the twins I was carrying, or not..

I would suggest that you get two tests. Take one immediately, as soon as you get home, and then regardless of the results, take the second in the morning.

But it's true, the dollar store tests work just as good as any of the expensive ones at the drugstore!

Test is only good way to tell...the signs of pregnancy can be from other things...Also I had a friend who was three weeks late once.

Most cities have free clinics too- free test and you can just walk in and get the results after a few minutes
but there is paperwork.....lol

And a lot of those "clinics" that offer free pregnancy tests actually have an anti-abortion or adoption agenda. They're not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts or from a women's health perspective, they offer free tests and gifts in hopes of changing minds or cementing certain ideas from the very first positive test. There is frequently some kind of "hard sell" that plays on our emotions involved.

Unless one agrees with the agendas and tactics these places use, it's a hell of a lot easier to spend a couple of bucks on one's own tests.

If you come up negative, I do hope this little scare burned the fear of having an unwanted pregnancy deep into your brain. As a woman you need to take complete responsibility for your own birth control. Get yourself on some kind of good birth control method if you are sexually active and don't want to get pregnant.

And using condom is NOT a birth control method.
AND you need to take responsibility to keep yourself from getting infected by others who may be carrying sexual transmitted diseases.
Think of it this way.

When you have sex with a guy without using a condom, you are not only having sex with him, but you are having with the last 10 people (or more) he has had unprotected sex with...and the last 10 people that THOSE people have had unprotected sex with as well, and on it goes. That's some unknown scary shit right there.
So it's not simply a stupid thing to do. You are putting your very life in danger every time you do it.

Yes, this was of course what I was thinking, expecting and everything and yes, it did get burn into my brain. I'm not ready to be a mom. And I already feel like dropping this guy like a hot potato.

I'm not pregnant, and I'm torn between being relieved and a bit upset, I suppose that's normal though..

While I understand that you are very respected around the forums for your great advice, this simply is not true. Statistically, those cheaper pregnancy tests do not work as good as some of the more expensive ones in terms of 1. Accuracy and 2. Early detection.

The First Response Early Result pregnancy test is extremely sensitive and reliable. Probably #1 choice because you can test up to 4 days before your missed period.

The Clearblue Easy +/- and/or digital is another that can detect early.

Truth is, not all pregnancy tests are the same. As a student of pharmacy, I'd suggest spending the cash for either of these two bad boys.

...I actually have a final in this class tomorrow. :)

If you read my post carefully, you'll see I was speaking about my experience and what other women had told me. I've never bought the uber-expensive tests, anyway, so the dollar store ones worked just as well as the mid-priced tests I had become accustomed to buying. Those tests detected early with a high rate of accuracy (just like the very expensive ones), but testing early has never been my style or concern because I've always been so prone to early miscarriages and disappointments when we were trying to conceive.

Well, he is technically right. Of course, from a practical standpoint, it isn't that big of a deal. The accuracy of the cheap tests is still high and women that assume they're pregnant should probably be going to the doctor's office, anyway.
