Lack of communication

Those of us in the know know that Laurel has gotten caught up in a bizarre chain of events involving an underground society of hyper-intelligent pigeons. It all started when they fed a particularly smug-looking pigeon at the park, only to find a tiny USB drive tied to its leg. Curiosity got the best of her, and next thing you know, Laurel was deep in a hidden network of avian operatives who apparently control far more of the internet than we ever realized. I hope and pray that the bird flu doesn’t harm the operation. 🙏
Is this another virus like the bird flu?

AFAF.

Dude, people are waiting for weeks with zero communication to post stuff in Sci-Fi&Fantasy. It's got nothing to do with whatever pissing contest you have going on with some LW authors. ( Who incidentally, have zero influence. The #1 author by far on the site at the time once put out an ultimatum and got a shrug. Alwayswantedto pulled all his work and the site chugs on unimpeded. Nobody is "big" or "important" enough to "scare" Laurel with some irrelevant threat. The top 10 authors could take their ball and go home and be little more than a blip on the radar. )

All this talk has me a bit concerned, so I'm going to hunker down and be prepared.

I'm writing an SF piece right now... is there an issue? Been awhile since I posted there, I think.
Personally, I think it's stuff getting flagged as AI that's getting sort of left to the side instead of getting passed or rejected. It's not exclusive to any category. I just picked something on the opposite end of the scale from LW to use as an example.

I hadn't thought of that. I'm waiting on Ch. 03 of one of my stories to get a posting date. I submitted it last Friday and I usually get a date very quickly. I re-posted mine since I found an error. I'd be shocked if something of mine was flagged as potentially AI. AI sounds emotionless but tends to not make the stupid errors I do. :p

A week isn't outside the realistic window, even if most of your stuff passes in a couple of days. Hell, when I first started, a week was standard, and they were only approving about 60 stories a day back then.

People saying to "just wait your turn" when someone is up to two or three weeks or more are living in fantasyland, though. It would be more of a pain to fiddle with the queue for category balance or whatever that much than it would be to just pass stuff. Either it's in the submissions black hole bug, or it's getting passed over for some specific reason. The most likely culprit is an AI flag, considering these long wait reports emerged and ramped up as the AI rejection reports waned.

What I don't understand is, how does it even matter who runs the place, Laurel, BlackRandl or Mister T? When there is zero communication, it doesn't matter who is the person who isn't communicating.
Best advice is to enjoy this place for what it is, if you can. Have no illusions or ideas of changing it. It doesn't work.
Enjoy it as it is, or maybe go to a different website if you find one that better suits you. But either way this kind of talk leads nowhere.

It's all starting to make sense to me now.

"I am not the Laurel," she said. "My name is Ray I inherited this website from the previous Laurel, just as you will inherit it from me. The woman I inherited it from was not the real Laurel, either. Her name was Cummerbund. The real Laurel has been retired fifteen years and living like a king in Patagonia."

Got I love that book so much.

The usual let's all pile on someone to get cheap points from the site thread

Here's some fodder for you.

Blackrandl1958 did have a little something to do with someone getting a hard time here, but it had nothing to do with this person, or anyone's stories. When someone has been here a long time and has been a huge contributor to the site, and helped so many people here editing, that if someone attacks them, and they say something, the site will pay attention. Someone went from sugar to shit over that.

There have been cabals here in the past on the writer side, but they had nothing to do with Laurel herself (Now, in the GB years ago, very different story)

Funny thing is there is a little secret group here, couple of them are chortling away in this thread.

There's not much here I don't either know or end up hearing about through back channels at this point.

Have fun.
