Col. Susannah Meyers the base commander was close to the end of her career and apparently planned to retire. She could be criticized for issuing the email to her soldiers etc (Outside the normal chain of command). Apparently Vance was offended by the fact that the Danish and Greenland flags stood alongside the US flag as an acknowledgment of sovereignty at the base.The equal status of the flags was apparently required in the treaty agreement between Denmark and the USA.

She was fired by Corporal Hegseth at the behest of Vance. The fact that she is a woman had nothing to do with it of course.
