hi all...
i just started nuvaring and those of you who have tried it/been on it longer than a month, i am curious about a fews things...

- what were the immediate side effects of the ring?
- how long did they last?
- have there been any long term side effects you've noticed?
and lastly...
do you feel more protected on it than you did the pill?

thanks for your input! this is new to me (like, been in me for 2 days!) and maybe my body is just adjusting, but man...!

If you search this forum (using the search function top right) you will find a number of threads where birth control methods are discussed, including the nuvaring.

...i did...and none of them answered those questions. oh well....
if anyone is one it and can answer those ?s....please do.

my stomach is doing flips and turns ever since i put it in and it is really bad. i dont know if it's b/c of the ring or something else..

I've been on NuvaRing for almost a year now. I can't remember having any side effects in the first month, but then I switched from the Patch which was giving me problems with side effects. I haven't really noticed any side effects this whole time, except an even lighter and shorter period.

I can't compare it to the pill, but I definitely like the fact that I only have to think about it once a month. As for protection, I feel safe. Although, sometimes it does fall out during sex. Which is a small annoyance really, I just take it out before now and put it back in immediately afterwards. Since the ring can be out for three hours.

Nausea is a known side effect of the NuvaRing. I'd probably wait it out to see if I adjusted, unless it was unbearable. You may want to call your doctor, and if it's really disruptive, ask if they can prescribe an anti-nausea drug like Compazine or Phenergan for the first month if you want to try to stick it out.

I haven't tried the NuvaRing, but would definitely give it a go if I ever went back to hormonal bc because I've heard there are usually fewer/less severe side effects and it's far more convenient than the Pill. I'd feel more protected simply because it takes most of the user error out of it. Right now we're very happy using condoms and the Fertility Awareness Method though. :)

it is convenient...but i'm not really horny! and i'm a horn dog! why would that change? i've been on the pill for years and this is lower hormone....any thoughts?

(and i dont have a doctor...just planned parenthood....)

Planned Parenthood's great - give them a call. :)

The NuvaRing may have a lower level of hormones, but it could still cause new side effects if it's a different mix than you're used to. My libido decreased with the pill, though I didn't notice it until I came off for a couple of months. Then again, I'm rarely horny when I'm nauseous or feeling off, so that could be the issue as well.

....PP called in an RX for ortho-cyclen (b/c if i go back on the pill, i'd like to skip my period and you can't do that on tri-phasic pills)...but, i'm not as icky feeling now. however, still not horny. i'm masturbating at night, but not into it...

then again, my man is gone for a week so maybe it psychological. i'm normally one horny bird...but maybe between the stress of work, training for my avon 2-day walk for breast cancer, and feeling sick off the ring, i'm just not reved up for lovin.

i do like the idea of this method and read a lot about it the past few days - studies show it increases the 'good' bacteria in your vagina, creates more moisture (though i get plenty wet!) and all that stuff. i think i will try an additional month on it. i'm confused - i wish planned parenthood could spend more time with you, but...it's not a doctors office serving your needs, it's a clinic trying to please everyone! the first pill i was on was ortho cyclen, then i spent 2 years on ortho tri cyclen lo...so when the nurse from planned parenthood called she was rushing me to choose what pill i wanted, and i had no idea! ugh oh well
