Law And Order

except some nonsensical jokes are funny, like I swear on my mother's grave, but you're mother's not dead, well if I go back on my word I'll kill her. Now that's funny, but it doesn't make snese. possibly it's funny because it doesn't make sense.

But this lesbian lawyer thing is just weird.

Not your best work. I give it a 7.5.

I see it as a cheap attempt to generate "drama" for the show. The character was never portrayed as being a lesbian from what I've read. To then have her make that kind of statement wasn't being true to the character. There should have been at least some hint or suspicion at some time during the show that she might be queer.

What the writers did was not a smart move to take with a plot of any show. Inserting a surprise "twist" that is completely outside of a character's personality is a great way to piss off viewers ... and lose them in the process. It's a poor writing style, and quite typical of bad writers struggling to make their plot interesting. It typically fails too.

I agree completely, it seems entirely out of place and poorly written. Furthermore, I suspect it's a crass use of the gay card to be "edgy," or something to that effect.

It's a good thing I didn't make it up then. It's actually from an old Tom Hanks movie, the same one I think where a suicidal guy tries to cut his own throat with an electric shaver.

Well, fantastic. Your record is preserved.

It's one of the few episodes I missed. Actually, Selena seemed completely non-sexual, sometimes non-human. It was sad that such a beautiful woman could not act at all.

i did read an article that said that a lot of fans were waiting for her to come out but were disappointed in the way she did

the article might be trash though ... it was posted on afterellen.com

I got the impression there were thoughts she might eventually come out as a lesbian because of no portrayed relationships with men. The problem with this is that there was little to no background at all about her personal life. IMO, it was basically conjecture on the part of some.

I agree, that does seem rather weak. Unless I'm wrong, none of the characters really have any background on thier personal lives. So by the same rights, one of the male characters could be gay or one of the others could be an alien sent to study humankind's judicial system.

Selena Southerlyn played by Elisabeth Rohm.

There is very little ever presented about the character's personal lives on L&O. All the focus is on their professional lives. So, this was a shocker.

I totally agree. There was no warning for this and even if it wasn't a decision based on her sexuality the reason for it seemed flimsy at best. It wasn't that her job performance was lousy! WHat a stupid ending.

Excellent point. She seemed kind of flat to me as a character - no real depth...

you make a good point. i missed this episode tho dammit! but maybe they'll bring her back for the defence team or something because the episodes i've seen lately (possably reruns) made it seem like she was getting to a point to where she wasn't sure if the way they were prosicuting people was moral. i think i'd like to see her be a defence attorny and go up against... crap... what's his name.. omg .. can't belive i can't think of it... that older stuffy guy lol
