Learning together (Closed for Led Astray)

Carefully, the doctor repacked the wound with gauze, and taped a new bandage over the top.

<This will need changing every day - the gauze and the bandage. I may not be available to do it, as I have 3 other villages on my rounds. I will show the young man where it is kept, he seems more than capable judging by his bandaging.>

Adam frowned - it was clear he was being talked about but he had no idea what was being said

<You must rest, of course. If I had a plasma drip I would set one up but...> The doctor shook his head. <Lots of fluids, iron-rich foods if you can find them, and protein. You need to restore the blood you lost. >

He drew the cover further up Raveena's body, giving her a more modest appearance, and the called for the interpreter.

She explained to Adam what the Dr had said and watched as the interpreter came back into the room so that she could rest. Curling up some she tried to get comfortable to get a little sleep. Thanking the Dr for his help she suspected that the palace would send for them soon enough if they could.

As Raveena drifted off to sleep, Adam gently disentangled her fingers from his.

On the spur of the moment, without concious thought, he leaned over and kissed her gently on the forehead. Then, as surprised by his bold action as anyone else, he flushed slightly and, with the doctor and the interpreter, left the room.

"So, how is she, really?" Asked adam, via the interpreter.

"Well, she has lost a lot of blood. She needs to rest, give her body a chance to replace it. In ideal circumstances i would give her a transfusion... or at least plasma... but she is a healthy young woman and should make a full recovery, given time to rest."

"A transfusion?" murmured Adam. "Why not?"

"Because this is only a small village hospital, young man, I do not have a supply of blood on hand like they do in the cities."

"Actually... you do..." replied Adam. "I'm Blood-type O-negative - universal donor..."

The doctor nodded, thoughfully. "Well... let us see how she does, hmmm? If she has not improved within the next few days, we shall consider it... now, as for you... you look almost dead on your feet. I prescribe rest, young man! There is another bed in the room next to your ladyfriend, I suggest you go ans use it..."

"She's not my..." but from the way the interpreter was grinning, he realised his protestations were going to fall on deaf ears. Surrendering, he quietly re-entered the room and, slipping off his shoes, shorts and vest, slid into teh empty bed. It did not take long for him to fall asleep...

Over a couple of days her strength slowly returned as did her appetite and focus. The Dr would not let the palace guards move her until he was completely sure she would be alright to travel sending orders for her to rest as much as they could make her do so then to insure a little more sleep for her sedated her for the trip back to the palace.
