Leaving it all behind... (Ryanmo97 x DarkWarrioress)

Travis wasn't making anything fancy. Just spaghetti and meat sauce. He smiled when he saw Casey walking in a very nice dress and barefoot. When she asked if there was anything she could help with. Then he heard a 'meow' coming from the living room. "Sounds like Furball is awake. I gave her a mild sedative so she would sleep on our way up here. Why don't you get her out and feed her. Her food is in the cabinet just over there..." He pointed at where Furball's food was.

Casey heard Furball at the same time Travis did.

"Sounds like Furball is awake. I gave her a mild sedative so she would sleep on our way up here. Why don't you get her out and feed her. Her food is in the cabinet just over there..."

The poor baby. She had wondered why there hadn’t been a peep out of Furball since they left the city. Now she knew. Before going to release the kitty, Casey took some food from the cupboard that Travis had pointed to. Retrieving Furball’s food dish, she fixed the bowl of food and set it on the floor out of the line of traffic and went to release the queen. Opening Furball’s crate, Casey reached in and petted her, talking softly.

“Hi sweetheart. Are you hungry? Come on, let’s get you something to eat.”

Furball came out of her crate, purring. Casey was fast becoming her almost favorite person. Setting the four-legged Furball down by her food, Casey watched her eat for a moment before wandering back to the kitchen island and took a seat.

“That smells wonderful, Travis.”

Travis watched Casey and Furball and smiled. He was glad the two most important ladies in his life got a long. When Casey complemented his cooking, Travis said, "Thank you..." He started to stir the sauce, "So... how are you in the kitchen?" He checked to see if the water for the spaghetti was starting to boil.

"So... how are you in the kitchen?"

Travis’ question made her smile a little and strangely enough, it helped put her at ease.

“Oh, I’d say I know my way around the kitchen. Why do you ask?”

She was curious. She certainly didn’t mind sharing the kitchen duty with him. Although, she didn’t consider being in the kitchen as a “duty”. For her it was a stress relief. She enjoyed cooking and baking.

“Oh, I’d say I know my way around the kitchen. Why do you ask?”

"I was just curious," said Travis as he put the spaghetti on to cook, "I like to cook myself. So, I'm more than happy to share cooking responsibilities. I think we should share all the household responsibilities. I don't really believe in 'man's work' or 'women's work'"

“I enjoy cooking as well, baking too. Maybe we can cook together some time and sharing sounds fair to me. Well,” she hesitated a moment, “except for taking out the trash. Can I leave that for you? Unless of course, you’re not home, then that’s a whole different thing.”

Casey got up from her chair and headed for the cupboards, searching until she found what she was looking for, plates and silverware. The least she could do was set their places for supper.

“Here at the island, Travis or is there someplace else you want our places set?”

She stood poised to move in any direction.

Travis laughed when Casey said he could take out the trash, “Deal…” Travis checked the spaghetti and it was ready. He got out a strainer and put it in the sink. When she asked about setting the table, he said, “The island is fine…” he picked up the pot the spaghetti was and carried it over to the sink, he strained the spaghetti then he mixed the spaghetti in with the sauce, “just about ready… would you like some wine?”

Casey did the place settings on the island. She had just put the silverware on the napkins when Travis asked her a question.

“Just about ready… would you like some wine?”

“Oh, wine would be lovely. If you tell where to find it, I’ll get it while you get the spaghetti on the island. A lovely red would be nice, I think.”

In the meantime, Furball was weaving between their legs, hoping someone would pay attention to her, making Casey laugh as she bent down to stroke the cat’s fur. She straightened back up and leaned against the counter, watching Travis.

Travis nodded, “the wine cooler is right there next to the dishwasher…” Travis put the pot of spaghetti on the island. He got some wine glasses out of the cupboard and got a container of graded parmesan cheese out of the fridge. “Dinner is served…”

Casey withdrew a bottle of red wine, closing the wine cooler door as she did. Glancing at Travis she asked…

“Corkscrew?”

She held the bottle up.

“You do the honors, please? I never could get the cork out of the bottle properly.”

Setting the bottle on the island, she went around to take a seat and wait for him to join her. Inhaling deeply, she let it out with a sigh.

“It smells so good.”

“Sure.” He got out the corkscrew and opened the bottle. He poured them each a glass. He handed her a glass and then said, “I would like to make a toast…” he raised his glass, “To our new life together… may we always be as happy as we are now…”

Casey accepted her glass of wine.

“I would like to make a toast…”

He said as he raised his glass.

“To our new life together… may we always be as happy as we are now…”

Before they drank to that, she amended it slightly.

“May we be happier than we are now, “she smiled.

She took a sip before sitting down in front of a plate and waited for Travis to join her. She reached for his plate and put some of the spaghetti on it before fixing her own.

“This is good. Thank you for fixing supper tonight. Travis.. does any of this feel even slightly awkward to you?”

She was curious. It wasn’t that she felt awkward, but it felt…. Different? Strange? She wasn’t sure she could define it.

They clinked glasses, he took a sip and he sat down. He took his plate from her and started to eat. When she thanked him for making dinner he smiled and said, “You’re welcome…” When she asked about if he felt awkward. He thought for a moment and said “yeah I guess you could call it awkward…”

“Yeah I guess you could call it awkward…”

Casey’s forkful of spaghetti was halfway to her mouth when she stopped and looked at him.

“What would you call it, if not awkward? I mean, I’ve been your personal assistant for so long now and suddenly, we’re married and an intimate relationship between us seems to be imminent. The transition just feels… well, if awkward isn’t a good word, I’m at loss for one.”

Travis nodded, “You’re right… it’s awkward… But, I think we can get past the awkwardness.” He took a bite of his food. He had to admit he was a little nervous when it came to making love later that night. It had been awhile since he last had sex.

“You’re right… it’s awkward… But, I think we can get past the awkwardness.”

She hoped so. She was feeling a bit nervous about tonight.

"Travis....." she hesitated, "do you think we could forego our intimacy for tonight?"

She wasn't sure how he was going to take that. She was hoping that he wouldn't be offended in any way. She just needed a little time to get use to being married first. It was nothing against him personally. She simply had known him as her boss and to some extent, as an individual but as a man? She had never let herself even think that way and besides, Travis had been dating other women and had never seen her as anything but his assistant.

"Travis....." she hesitated, "do you think we could forego our intimacy for tonight?"

This surprised Travis. He was truly looking forward to having sex with Casey that night. But, he would never force her to do anything she didn’t want. “Oh… if that’s what you want… we don’t have to have sex tonight…” he had a disappointed look on his face.

Casey could see the disappointment on Travis’ face and mentally shook her head. She didn’t understand it. She hadn’t built up a personal relationship with him and so, in her mind, she just needed a little time. Reaching out, she placed a hand on his arm.

“I’m sorry, Travis. I know how much you’re counting on this relationship. I just need a little time, please.”

Travis gave her a reassuring smile, “I will admit that I’m disappointed. But, I don’t want to pressure you into doing anything you’re not ready for. If you want you can move into one of the guest rooms, until you’re ready.”

She feared putting distance between them but she just couldn’t see herself sleeping with Travis just yet. The guest room sounded like the place she needed to be for now.

“I’ll move my things after we finish eating. Thank you for being so understanding, Travis.”

Casey pushed her spaghetti around on her plate before she dug in and actually ate.

“You fixed supper, I’ll clean up. That seems only fair.”

Casey got up from the island and started gathering their plates and went to the sink to start wash water.

“I’ll move my things after we finish eating. Thank you for being so understanding, Travis.”

Travis smiled, “No problem…” Soon dinner was over, and Casey said she would handle cleaning up. He nodded, “Okay…” he got up and started to take care of the leftovers. He saw her filling the sink with water, “You can wash them buy hand if you want but the dishwasher works very well…”

She glanced over her shoulder at him with a sheepish grin.

"I forgot about the dishwasher. There's only the two of us and for the most part, I don't mind washing everything by hand."

As she spoke, Casey started loading the sink with the dishes and began washing them. It was also therapeutic to her. Besides the sounds of her doing the dishes, Travis was behind her, putting away the leftovers. It felt... homey, just them and Furball.

"So, Travis, tell me something more about you personally that I might not know."

Travis smiled as she washed the dishes. When she ask him to tell her something more personal about himself. He thought about it, “What would you like to know?”

Casey hands stopped what they were doing as she turned and looked at him.

"I don't know. Everything. Anything. What did you do when you weren't dating women who disappointed you? Tell me anything you'd like me to know," she paused for a moment, thinking.

"I'm just trying to get to know you better."

Travis nodded I see, "Well, as far as sports go, I like Baseball, Football and NASCAR. I like game shows. I like to watch competition reality shows like Big Brother and Survivor. I like a good comedy movie. And my favorite vacation spot is Walt Disney World."
