"I know my being here does make it harder for someone such as you to do your job. I doubt anyone would be inclined to see a house if you said 'By the way, this place is haunted'," stated Jeff.

He watched as she took a drink while she was resting on the stairs. "This house was built back in the early 1910's with my own hands. And with some help as well," Jeff told Cassidy.

She shook her head.

"No ... and that reputation is already well known locally ... "

She commented.

"This house was built back in the early 1910's with my own hands. And with some help as well,"

She glanced around.

"I figured it was from around that time period ... "

She told him.

"It's obvious it was loved ... a long time ago ... "

Whereas now it was merely a real estate 'white elephant'.

"That love has never died for this house. It has simply manifested into something else. It still has the potential to be just as lovely as the day the last nail was placed into it," replied Jeff.

Though she didn't know it, Jeff had decided to sit down next to Cassidy. "The stairs you're sitting on are from some of the most solid wood around, individually crafted by hand. The top of the fireplace is made from marble and the bricks were made not but two towns over," he told her.

Cassidy sighed heavily. The place had potential, but his presence was holding back that potential from being realised.

"The stairs you're sitting on are from some of the most solid wood around, individually crafted by hand."

Cassidy looked down, a hand stroking the fine wood as he spoke.

"The top of the fireplace is made from marble and the bricks were made not but two towns over," he told her.

She had ben impressed by the fireplace and was pleased to discover that he had been so locally made.

"There are incredible features in this house ... "

She agreed.

"It would be perfect with a combination of the historical and modern... "

"The basement has cement on the walls as well as the floor. It was to keep the rodents out and help with keeping it insulated at times. However, even the furnace down stairs takes time to get it warmed up," he had told her.

Jeff looked at Cassidy as he saw her looking around, admiring the beauty of the handiwork that had been done. "This house has a strong foundation. An unforgiving foundation that won't be shaken, as an owner should be. That's one of the main reasons I make it so hard for this place to be sold," said Jeff as he tried to feel Cassidy's ponytail. "It needs a strong owner for the strong foundation. Someone who will restore it and care for it while realizing the delicacy that it has."

She was amazed that there was a furnace down there, but then of course there would be for surely that was where the kitchen would have been located before the garish extension was built. As a source of heating it would be incredible once restored...

"This house has a strong foundation. An unforgiving foundation that won't be shaken, as an owner should be. That's one of the main reasons I make it so hard for this place to be sold,"

A property with such foundations would be complex to destroy. And although she was none the wiser as to why 'her ghost' remained in 'his house', she found his admission refreshing.

"It needs a strong owner for the strong foundation.
Someone who will restore it and care for it while realizing the delicacy that it has."

She felt her hair move, not as if a breeze had passed through it, more as if someone had brushed past. And of course there was no way of knowing where he actually was or if he even took any substantial form.

" ... so you're intending to make that choice? You think it's for you to decide who buys this place and what they will do to it?"

She asked. Finding a buyer to meet his approval would be complex to say the least.

"And then what? Are you here just to make sure your property passes into reliable hands or are intending to stay here long term?"

It did of course cross her mind that he might be trapped here by some tragic event, but she did not wish to broach that with him now that they seemed to have struck up at least a semblance of co-operation ...

"When I was killed that fateful night I thought I would cease to be in this world. I thought if God had mercy I'd go to heaven, but I even thought that what I did warranted me to be in hell. Why I'm in neither, I don't know," came the honest reply from Jeff. "So I don't know if someone just buying and caring for this house will lead me to the afterlife or not."

Jeff slowly paced around as he watched Cassidy's reaction. "But I would like to have an input on who stays due to how they'll keep the place. I find no reason that shouldn't be acceptable."

Jeff slowly made his way to where Cassidy had placed her jacket and moved it a little. "Please, Miss Cassidy, make sure you take your jacket down to the basement with you when you look it over since it will be cold and unforgiving."

Why I'm in neither, I don't know, ... So I don't know if someone just buying and caring for this house will lead me to the afterlife or not."

It was the first information she'd had about the fate of Jeff Williamson.

"I had no idea that you met your death in this house."

She responded carefully.

"... or the circumstances ... "

She had not missed the fact that he spoke of committing a deed that warranted hell.

"But I would like to have an input on who stays due to how they'll keep the place. I find no reason that shouldn't be acceptable."

Cassidy realised that she didn't have much choice. He could totally jeopardise what she was trying to do here and, given the circumstances, his request did not seem unreasonable.

"I hope we can work together on this Mr Williamson."

She agreed without making any specific promises.

"Please, Miss Cassidy, make sure you take your jacket down to the basement with you when you look it over since it will be cold and unforgiving."

Cassidy glanced across and saw her jacket was being moved slightly.
Rather than being freaked by the fact, she smiled.

"Will you go down there with me?"

She asked him realising that it would be the reverse of what any sane person might wish.

"I'd prefer it if I could actually see you, but even like this, I think I'd feel safer with you beside me ... "

Jeff had already gone ahead and started to open the door to the basement as Cassidy went to get her jacket. "If I could, I'd personally escort you around the whole house, Miss Cassidy," replied Jeff.

He tried to run his ghostly hand down her arm so she could tell where he was when he came back. He watched as she slowly slid her jacket on and started to make her way to the entrance of the basement.

"If I could, I'd personally escort you around the whole house, Miss Cassidy,"

In response to her request, the basement door began to open slowly.
Cassidy took her jacket and picked up a torch before heading towards the door way and was sure that she had felt a touch on her arm as she had done so.

"You seem to have had no trouble in making your presence known when you've been protecting the house before... "

She commented.

"Is it just with me that you seem to have difficulty taking a more substantial form?"

She asked as she switched on her torch and began to walk slowly down the stairs...

"Some changes are better with taken slowly over time, Miss Cassidy," was the simple response that he gave her as she started to go down the stairs to the basement. "Besides, isn't it a bit more fun for you to use your imagination to figure out what I look like?"

Jeff could tell that she was getting a little bit cold as she continued to descend the stairs.

"Some changes are better with taken slowly over time, Miss Cassidy,"

She chuckled.

"You're probably right..."

She responded as she continued downwards, her hand securely on the banister and her torch alternating between the steps and the darkness below them.

"Besides, isn't it a bit more fun for you to use your imagination to figure out what I look like?"

She laughed.

"Fun!?! Well ... that wasn't exactly the word I'd choose, no..."

She replied as they finally reached the foot of the stairs.
She gave a shiver as she cast her torch around. Reaching out she flicked a light switch up and down, but there was no illumination.

"It's bigger than I thought down here."

She commented noticing that her torch beam disappeared before it reached the walls leaving much of the room in shadow.

"Yes, it is quite huge," responded Jeff. "It's almost as big as the main floor is, if that helps give you an idea. There should be a lever on the wall to turn on some lights."

He watched as Cassidy moved the torch to the wall to find the lever at the bottom of the stairs.

"Yes, it is quite huge, It's almost as big as the main floor is, if that helps give you an idea. There should be a lever on the wall to turn on some lights."

What could she possibly do with all this hidden space she wondered as she replied.

"The switch is there, but the electricity isn't."

She flicked the old fashioned switch up and down to illustrate her point and the stepped forward carefully peering into the darkness.

"Perhaps I should leave the exploration of this floor to the experts ... no telling what might be found down here ... I don't recall this being included on our house details. I imagine they simply shut the door and ignored that this level even existed... "

"How many experts are you going to have here?" inquired Jeff. There had been a lot of people over the years that have used the basement to store a lot of stuff and he thought it would a good idea not to have her wander around in the dark.

"Please allow me to get the door for you, Miss Cassidy," he stated. A moment later the door at the top of the stairs opened up, letting a little bit of sunlight down to the basement.

She considered his question.

"As many as it takes, but they'll be people I know and trust."

She laughed.

"My colleagues seemed to think that I just stand around giving directions and orders and if they were to see what I'm intending for this place, then they'd believe themselves to be right... "

The dark seemed to swallow up her laughter, the atmosphere heavy.

"Please allow me to get the door for you, Miss Cassidy,"

Before she could reply the door opened to admit a think stream of weak sunlight down into the cellar.

"There don't seem to be any windows down here at all,"

She commented.

"So you intent to make others do all the work while you just watch?" he inquired. He looked down at her as she started walking up the stairs.

"The idea was that having windows would compromise the cooling of the food while it was stored and prepared down here. Again, a strong foundation, Miss Cassidy."
