They are as close to reality as the FBI can make them. There is no source considered closer to the truth, but Heather Mac Donald over at the Manhattan Institute does a better job of interpreting them.

Except for murdering young children under 12 years old, women commit very few homicides. Very few murders of young children are committed with guns. The vast majority are beaten, bludgeoned, strangled, stabbed or drowned to death. Most women who are murdered are murdered by men. Back in the day when the FBI collated data on weapons used in specific murder circumstances, it was obvious that very few women who were murdered by rapists were killed with guns.

Banning guns will not protect women and children from being murdered nor will it prevent women from murdering their children.

I will admit the "reality" of my existence and the surrounding land was created by myself, my own hard work, enterprise, stewardship, and of course Mother Nature. Oh, and I do choose to live in it but in this instance, I do reject your jaded analysis of it.

The main deadly threat to children is CARS. They’re about as deadly as guns. Now we can’t ban cars, but we can reduce how much we rely on them. So if you care about keeping kids safe, reducing both cars and guns is a good idea.

Fatalities when vehicles are travelling at or below 20mph are miniscule, mostly from when people walk behind manoeuvring cars/trucks without being seen.

Having 20mph urban speed limits, keeping kids away from cars being parked and making sure they're wearing proper seat restraints when passenger just about eliminates the threat.
