Like Mother, Like Daughter

Jenna's mother had been gone for over six months now and all because of one stupid mistake on her part. Her father had been heart broken. In just the way it had all been done, with her lies, the cheating and then the divorce. They had been so in love, having been together for nearly 22 years and for it all to come crashing down like it had, well, it was hard to take. Jenna hadn't taken it well either. She had recently had her 18th birthday party and her mother had not attended. Although she knew her father missed her mother, it would have been chaos if she had been allowed to attend and so Jenna discarded her invitation the moment she wrote it, ultimately choosing her father over her mother in this instance.

It was 9:13pm and Jenna's father had recently returned from a long day at the office. It was a Friday and so they had the entire weekend to relax from work and school related stress and Jenna, for one, was looking forward to it. "Hey dad, wanna' watch a movie tonight? We could order takeout." Jenna stood propped up against the door frame leading into the kitchen dressed in nothing but an over-sized night shirt with plain black panties underneath that she liked to wear in the evenings. Her brunette locks flowed freely down her back and over her shoulders with her chocolate brown eyes looking at him to match her strands of hair. She was the spitting image of her mother when they had first met all those years ago and her father never stopped telling her that either. Jenna had seen the pictures and could only agree.

"Hey dad, wanna' watch a movie tonight? We could order takeout."

I set down my briefcase inside the door to my study and loosened my tie. "Sure, sweetie," I responded. "Whatever you like."

I sighed. With Michelle gone, it wasn't quite the same around here. She usually cooked on Fridays. I still found myself expecting to hear her voice and smell her culinary efforts when I opened the door, even after six months.

Jenna was bearing up a bit better than I. Probably helped that she knew her mother's departure had nothing to do with her. Thank God Michelle made that abundantly clear so our kid didn't feel guilty for our divorce.

I couldn't quite say the same thing. Michelle had done more than her share, but I helped put her in a position where she felt like lashing out at me through infidelity. She shouldn't have handled her anger at me that way, but I couldn't hold myself blameless for the end of my marriage.

I found myself leaning on Jenna for support since. Too much, probably. She was just a teenager. But I was hurt and lonely and she was all to eager to come to her father's aid.

The temptation was all the greater given her resemblance to her mother. Same pert nose, full lips, hint of freckles atop the cheeks. Jenna wore her hair longer, but her chocolate locks were the same hue.

Jenna even had a similar figure and could wear some of Michelle's clothes, though that was becoming more limited. Michelle had always had dynamite curves but Jenna had been fairly lean till her late teens. Then in just a couple years, she blossomed into curves that rivaled her mother's. In the past year, Jenna went from rivaling to complete outpacing, particularly in the bosom. My former wife had a nice rack, but my teenage daughter's chest could stop traffic. I found myself instinctively glaring at any teenage boy who came near; I knew what their grubby paws were after.

I glanced at her outfit. Her impressive chest caused the front hem of her shirt to expose her bare thighs and hinted at the dark panties beneath. Michelle would have never let her daughter wear that around the house, but I was reluctant to be the "mean" parent since the divorce. I sighed and pretended not to notice.

Jenna could always tell when her father had had a good day and when he had had a bad day. With the way he disappeared off into his study, Jenna could tell that it had been a trying day to say the least. Hopefully pizza would remedy that. "I'll order it now then, that way it should be here in the next half hour." She called to him, hoping he wouldn't mind that it was pizza over chinese or mexican this time.

Making her way to the front room where she had last used her cellphone, Jenna made a call to the local pizza place. She waited for it to ring as finally someone answered the line. "Oh hey, Chris! It's Jenna. I wanted to place an order for delivery please. The usual but make it a large, please. Oh and add some wedges, and maybe a couple of drinks... yeah. Surprise me!" She giggled. "Okay, thanks Chris." And with that, the order had been taken.

Chris was a good friend of Jenna's, both the same age and both attended the same school. They had never progressed to 'dating' as Jenna never saw him in that way but boy was he determined. "Hey dad? I ordered the pizza, want me to pick out the movie too?" She called from the bottom of the stairs, hoping he'd hear her loud enough for an answer. "Chris said it'd be 30 minutes at the most and if not... he promised it'd be free. Here's to hoping it's 31 minutes then!" She grinned, being a little cheeky as she moved back into the front room after calling out to her father again. "Maybe you should get changed before then? I want us both to be comfy tonight. A stress free evening for sure!" And with that, Jenna disappeared to go find them a good movie to watch together.

I was in my bedroom when I heard Jenna holler from downstairs that she'd ordered pizza. "Chris said it'd be 30 minutes at the most and if not... he promised it'd be free. Here's to hoping it's 31 minutes then!"

I winced slightly. We did seem to order food in a lot. It was probably not a good sign that my daughter knew most of the delivery folks by name.

Such was another casualty of the divorce. My hours at the office didn't leave much time for cooking dinner. Michelle had always handled that aspect of things during the week. I was the one who grilled outside on weekends, not the one who put together casseroles. Yet something else I needed to take up the slack on.

I hung up my clothes and headed to the master bath. A quick shower always left me feel reinvigorated. Afterwards, I took a good look at myself in the mirror. I could at least take some pride in my appearance. Granted, you had to look a bit harder to see my abs than when I was my daughter's, but my regular exercise had kept my build lean. I also still had all my hair, though the dark blonde was starting to shift to something paler and grayer at the temples. All in all, pretty good for a man my age.

That fact hadn't been lost on the other women in my life. Most of the female friends I retained were wives of male friends. They'd expressed their sympathies and left me alone for the most part, but apparently the six-month mark was considered sufficient emotional distance from the divorce. Since then, I'd heard from half a dozen of them, all of them hinting about single female friends who they wanted to set me up with.

I'd demurred for now, but I was starting to think more seriously about it. I was still a bit leery of trying a relationship again, but I couldn't deny that it'd be nice to have a little female companionship. Now that most of the sadness and depression I'd felt in the wake of the divorce, I was starting to feel a bit lonely going to bed alone every night. Moreover, my libido had also reasserted itself, so my interests in having female companionship took on additional dimensions.

The doorbell shook me out of my metal reverie; food must be here. I swiftly put on a T-shirt and jeans and strode downstairs. "Alright, I'm ready," I called out to Jenna. "What did you pick out for this evening's entertainment?"
