Literotica Awards Discussion Thread

a virgin's opinion

I realize you're probably wondering since there have been so few votes from the virgin members of Literotica, why this is. I can't speak for everyone else but as for me, I guess as a virgin to the BB, I have definite opinions about which stories get me going and which ones don't. But I am having a problem picking just one story....grin. The research is killing me but I will stuggle along and make my nominations all in good time...once I recover that is.

As for picking the sexiest female or male author, I don't know if I am qualified to do that. Not that I can't recognize those qualities, but, I feel that you are more apt to have an informed opinion if you are more familiar with the authors body of work. Since I don't want to completely overload my system, I am going to be content with nominating my favorite stories and leave the nominating of authors to the people who are more informed.
Or who are more intuned with their gut feelings about who should be nominated.

Thanks for having the BB for voicing your opinions. I am going to make an effort to visit the BB in the future instead of just reading the stories. But the stories are all so good, you just have to read them first...*grin*

Hope to exchange more ideas and opinions with y'all later.

OK guys... it's time to voice your opinions.. what do you think about how the Lit. Awards are going so far... opinions and criticism requested here...

Other than the fact that not all of my stuff is doing the landslide thing, I think you're doing a great job.

Hey, HSWriter, Laurel said that we can have an Award for best Story on the RPG and the Best Story on the SRPG boards. So, could you make a nomination thread for these. Please?

As I understand it, there will be a different set of Awards for those... And plus, I haven't heard anything from Laurel about it.

Since this is my first experience with the awards, I don't have a lot of past experience to draw on. It seems a little chaotic, but I think most anything involving nominating and voting, can be chaotic...**grin**.

Plus I think its fun to see all the people getting to voice their opinions. And I must admit that it was an absolute riot to see one of my stories nominated! Now I know that it really is an honor just being nominated.

So, from a virgin's point of view, I think its pretty much going the way that it should and it should get wilder the closer it gets to the end...LOL!

Cat~~

PS. How many posts do you have to have before you are no longer a virgin?? >^-^<

Thanks for the info about the posts...so what does come after virgin. Or don't I want to know??

HSWRiter, while you're working to organize the awards and monitor this forum, many points have been raised on this thread that have never been addressed by you or Laurel (who has been on vacation, and so has had limited time to respond to everything that piled up while she was gone.) It's great that we have a place to discuss issues regarding the awards, but when the people in charge refrain from discussion and never resolve what is brought up here, then what's the point?

You answer easy questions, like what about the RP awards, and why the mature category nominations "disappeared," etc., but the more difficult concerns have been ignored.

It seems as if the parameters purposely left vague for Sexiest Author. If they are meant to be vague, then say so. That way we can know: "I won/lost the Sexiest Female/Male Author" because I did or didn't <fill in the blank>." If I end up lucky enough to win that coveted award, I'd like to know what I won it for. And on the other hand, if I lose, I'd like to know whether it was because I don't participate widely in all areas of the board (and even off the board in ICQ, as one nominator mentioned) or don't have a picture of my naked ass posted.

Maybe I'm the only sucker who cares that much about the awards. Or maybe I'm the only one who's willing to reveal her vulnerability in this area. I have no way of knowing, because Samuari and KM are the only ones who joined in the debate.

For me, being nominated for an award is really terrific. I check the nominations board daily to see if anyone has mentioned me. (Of course, I am also really very excited about the possibility of winning an award.) I'm certain that there are those who think me silly because I feel my writing is validated via the nominations. I'm also sure there are some people out there now rolling their eyes at me and saying "Get a life." Well, I do have a life. Thanks to Laurel and Manu, this board is a part of it. So are the bits of myself that stand here for strangers to read and judge and hopefully enjoy.

Whisper, I had desided to drop it after the immaculate deletion, but I would like to know what Laurel's thinking is on the subject. If the sexiest awards are for story writing alone, that is one thing, but if they are more like a most valuable member award, then it is something else entirely. On the other hand maybe its only the three of us that are interested.

There is a fine line in deadlines

I was wondering about the deadlines for eligible stories to vote on ...

For example I was very surprised when the story I voted on for Best Romance Story ... Coming Home by Killer Muffin ... was ineligible because it was posted early January.

Well really ... because of the problems with posting stories in 2000 ... and the big backlog ... I feel that a lot of authors who wanted to post their stories in 2000 didn't actually get to post them until early January 2001. Why should these authors be penalized?

Could we perhaps make an exception to include those stories that are posted in Literotica up until say January 15?

In my opinion, that would allow for a little leeway because of the story posting delays.

Whisper- Well, I thought that I had addressed this, but I will go over it again, but only because you were so nice in asking. Let's not dig too deep into the meaning of the awards here. The answer you are looking for is on the surface. The award is titled "Sexiest Female Author". This is not a "Sexiest Female Member" Award. These awards are based on the stories. So if you win, it is safe to say that you are the author whose stories the readers of Literotica enjoy the most. It really has absolutely nothing to do with your performance on the BB, or your picture in your profile, or anything other than your writing.

Samuari- Now, I thought we had already gone over this. If you still have a problem with me, then email me and we will settle it.

The only posts/threads that were ever deleted by me were threads in the Awards Nomination Forum that were not approved, and posts within that Forum which violated the rules of the Awards. And even then, the author of those posts have been forwarned, and given a chance to fix their posts.

Guys, hopefully I have answered all of your questions. If you have any more, than post them and I will answer them.

Oh, and Isabella, I think that is more of a question for Laurel. The backlog problems haven't been discussed as they relate to the awards. Interesting thought, though...

The immaculate deletion? I don’t know what you’re talking about, Sam. I think I missed something...

As far as the backlog, here’s my take: it’s my understanding that there’s ALWAYS been a backlog. It’s a shame that the stories posted in January, 2001 aren’t eligible for the 2000 Awards, but Laurel has to draw the line somewhere… Still, it's not like Coming Home will never be nominated ever. You can nominate it for the 2001 Awards, and knowing KM, she’ll have a few more romance stories by then that she’ll want considered. :)

HS, thanks for the reply. I just looked at your six posts on this thread, and couldn’t find where you addressed the parameters of the Sexiest Author category before now. Was it in some other thread in this forum? Samurai and I discussed in great detail how the word “author” should be interpreted and not until your last post did I see anything official regarding that.

You stated, “So if you win, it is safe to say that you are the author whose stories the readers of Literotica enjoy the most. It really has absolutely nothing to do with your performance on the BB, or your picture in your profile, or anything other than your writing.“

I have to disagree, just based on what I’m reading in the nominations area. More than one person mentioned Liquid Lisa’s pix. People are praising Havocman’s ass all over the Sexiest Male Author thread. If you (as the Literotica Awards Official) don’t say anything to discourage that, then people will think that they’re valid in considering Havoc’s or Lisa’s ass (as nice as they may be) in their nominations. (For the record, I think Havoc’s poetry is damned good.)

Whisper- I agree with you, and I have posted a note at the top of the "Sexiest Author" Threads about nominating for the writing. As for the nominations that have already been made, those few nominations that I see being made based on other things than the writing most likely will not make it to voting.. Thanks for your input, all of these things will be a good learning experience for next year's awards.

I posted this on the Author's Board and nobody answered me so I'll ask again here:

I don't understand the Erotic Reviews category. I thought I'd go in and check it out. The things by Yustas Kotz-Gottlieb obviously are reviews of erotic paintings but the other things in there seem to be fiction. I didn't actually read them right through, so I've maybe missed something obvious.

I was going to try and pick something to nominate for the awards but I just got myself confused. I don't really want to have to compare two different disciplines - Art Criticism and Fiction. Can anyone ease my troubled mind and explain it to me?

Just an observation

quoting HSWriter, in part: "Whisper- Well, I thought that I had addressed this, but I will go over it again, but only because
you were so nice in asking. Let's not dig too deep into the meaning of the awards here. The
answer you are looking for is on the surface. The award is titled "Sexiest Female Author". This is

profile, or anything other than your writing."

I want to point out the obvious here, which is the fact that since so many people continue to have so many questions about clarifying these two particular awards, that indicates to me that there is still no defining clarification. I appreciate your attempts, but there is still a great deal of confusion. Why have the adjective "sexiest" in the title at all if it does not pertain to the award(s) in the first place? I would recommend removing that from the title altogether next year, and I would suspect that would greatly clarify the point of those two particular awards.

I agree completely, Ariel79. I think the word "sexiest" is the root of all the trouble. Earlier in this thread, I think I suggested naming the award, "Best Male/Female Author," but never got any feedback on that suggestion. I guess we'll just have to wait until the 2001 Awards to see. :)

HS Writer, The reference was to give a time point, and that is all. I do think that you have been arrogant, high handed, and rude in the manner in which you have exercised your office. You have done a good job, but I think that way you did it could have been more dipolmatic. (I'm not one to emmulate on this.) On the other hand, we are a bunch of egotistical free spirits, and that may have been the best way to ride herd on us and get a difficult job done, within the dead line.

Wierd Harold explained that sometimes he has had posts disapear during the time it took him to hit refresh and see if he had a reply, "untouched by human hands", ie. literaly an immaculate deleation.

nominate

I would like to nominate a "sexiest female writer":
Deborah - because I know her secret -

and believe me she is sexy -------

The word "Sexiest" was the word used in the awards last year... Then, no one seemed to have a problem with it.. When Laurel and I discussed the Awards Categories for this year, we decided to use it again. There is really nothing that can be done for the 2000 Awards, but we can keep it in mind for next years awards when we go through and create categories. One thing I plan to do next year, (something I should've done this year) is take a serious poll from members about category names. I will make a lot of changes to the Awards next year, based on the feedback I have recieved this year. So keep the feedback coming (Send me some email telling me what you think, it's easier to keep track of..) so that I can work to make next year's awards better than this year's awards...

thanks
