Literotica Survivor Contest 2002!!

I think we're about to hit a dead spot here in sporting events. I never watch TV or sports beyond football. However, we do have basketball, hockey, baseball, and the entire olympics thing going on.

Perhaps we could do a sporting event thing. Isn't there something going on basically on a weekly basis? We wouldn't even have to all pick the same thing would we? Just pick a winner in whatever sport? Or something?

I think we'd better all use the same event otherwise there's no way of checking the truth of the claim (unless someone goes through all the nominated events each week).

The only thing I have to suggest is an immunity based on a lottery draw.

Over here we have a weekly national draw where participants have to select 6 numbers from 1 - 49 to win the jackpot. There is a bonus ball included in the real lottery but his can be ignored for our purposes

If we modified it to anyone getting just one correct number out of the 50 would get immunity or maybe just go with any group of numbers (keeping the same each week) to keep it more winnable!:

1 - 9
10 - 19
20 - 29
30 - 39
40 - 49

Winning numbers are published each week on a number of UK web-sites. The one I've linked below is one of the clearest to view.

We would only have to concentrate on the Saturday Jackpot and selections can be submitted in the usual way by midnight Friday (gmt).

As the jackpot is being drawn anyway it means that the only work involved would be to check the submitted numbers against the winning numbers and list the authors with immunity points.

Survivor rather than Monopoly

Count me in! I was too out-of-it last year to really "get" the contest and what? Now I'm a genius? Anyway, I think I get it now.

The "Survivor" title/contest was created around the time of some popular reality TV show event (yes, never watched it - sorry). So, shouldn't we be voting someone off the contest each week? Not literally, we could vote and someone could get deducted a point, if they end up the most voted, eh..."off the island."

Immunity points seem rather senseless and H and E's are definitely a bugger to deal with (for the time issue that KM brought up as well as Laurel feeling guilty - and who needs that?). So, we should probably just get points for creating new stuff.

This is all stories, right? Poems could be posted several times a day and would make the ending look more like a Basketball game. So, do we leave poems out of the contest or do we score them differently?

my thoughts-

It's hard enough writing a story without having ponts deducted as well!:D

I don't think we should go with that idea. It worked OK last time, why change it?

All we've got to do is find the right "Immunity Point" task.

Immunity points are useful if you have a real aversion in writing into a certain category (eg BDSM) or it may prove too difficult. At least the chance of getting immunity from those categories means you won't have to lose points by not writing into them.

But I agree 'E' and 'H' won't work...

When's this thing getting started anyway? It's now 14 Feb (that date rings a bell!) and we haven't started yet!

:)

I think...

...that I would like to enter but boy am I confused!!!

Please could someone clarify the rules and the start date.

Thankyou

All stories that you submit after January 1, 2002 are eligible, so it has, in effect, already started. We just haven't formalized the rules yet. Just write in as many categories as you can. :)

I like the idea of a lottery. We have a multi-state one here called Powerball. It's got a website and it's updated regularly. Does yours have a site, ppman?

I think you've got the right idea. Let's see how this works:

1) First story posted in each category counts as 2 points.
2) Each additional story in a category counts as 1 point.
3) Immunities count as 1 point (I like the story counting for more than the immunity, but that's up for grabs).
4) After September, no new categories will be added to the contest.
5) There will be 5 additional points for filling 10 categories. 10 for filling 20 categories. 15 for filling all categories. No additional points for Es, Hs, or Ws.
6) Laurel will start a thread on this board. Each contestant will have ONE post. With each new story the contestant will EDIT his or her post to reflect the new story. Contestants are responsible for making sure his or her ONE post is accurate.
7) Facilitator (whoever) will post a new thread each week on the board so people can render their guesses for immunities. There are six numbers in the lottery, contestant has one guess, a guess that matches any number wins an immunity point.
8) All persons are eligible, anyone can enter any time. All stories with a posting date of January 1, 2002 or later will be eligible. Cut off date is all stories must be submitted by December 31, 2002 pacific standard time.

We have plenty of sites for our National Lottery...

and although this is not the Official Site, it's one of the easiest to understand:

http://lottery.merseyworld.com/

The current week's winning numbers appear on the top line and previous weeks appear below that.

There are two lotteries per week but the most popular is on a Saturday.

If for any reason this site folds there are plenty of others to choose from. I'd stay away from the Official Site because that incorporates other Lotteries being held during the week and can get confusing as to which one is meant to be checked...

Are we including all categories this time round or are some going to be ommitted?

And do we send our story information to you direct or post them to a thread?

One more suggestion if we post them to a thread can we have a "clean"one that ONLY has story information on it. Last time I had to keep sending reminders because my story information was getting lost in general chit chat!

:)

The story thread is going to be started by Laurel. I will start the weekly immunity thread.

On the story thread each author will have ONE post. Rather than make a new post each time a story is up, you'll edit your ONE post. This way all the stories are listed. This will clean things up and eliminate the need for a big board.

I'll have TWO posts. One for my stuff and one for immunities. Each time the immunity points are awarded and confirmed, I'll edit the immunity post to reflect winners. I think it's easier to get a hold of me to correct it when I'm wrong than to get a hold of a very busy Laurel.

I think certain categories should be combined, such as Extreme, Novels/novellas, chain stories, and non-english. There will be an opportunity for a chain story this year.

I think audio should be eliminated. The rest, however, stand.

Count me in on this challenge. I agree the question of past winners is irrelevant all should start equal. Although I must admit I do not favour the immunities.

Allow me to explain my reservations. We all claim to be authors, some are better than others, but we all deal in the same stock in trade - words and imagination. Now it maybe that I am amoral but I believe that an author should be able to imagine him or herself into any situation.

Think of lawyers - they may not like all of their clients - they may find them absolutely distasteful but they still do their best to represent their client's best interests.

I think the aim should be to write in every category, if anything should be removed it would be Novels/Novellas on the grounds of length.

OK I've had my whinge now before we commence when are the rules finalised. And can they be put in one simple code?

Sounds good to me...

:D

new here

Hi people. I am new here as of today. I wanted to find out if I could still get in on this contest. I love writing and it sounds something that I would really enjoy. I do, however, need clarification on how the whole contest works. Thank you and I look forward to chatting with everyone here.

:) Welcome! We're still working out the nitty gritty details on the contest. Well, waiting for Laurel's final say-so and write up of the rules for all to ooh and aah over.

However, a useful piece of information for you:

All stories that you have submitted since January 1 of this year will count toward the contest, so start writing now if you already haven't!

Keep an eye out, we're waiting for the finalization of the rules and then we'll be happy to explain them.

I'm scribbling away...

tryingto get my story total up before summer.

What news of the competition...

:D

Still scribbling...

Any news yet?

Has the baby been born?

:D

No, but I'm going to induce labor.

We've got the rules worked out the satisfaction of like, three people. I'm going to clarify them and stick them on the author's hangout board with a sign-up.

Dunno if Laurel will officially sanction it like last year, but what the hell, right?

Potossin drip, here we come.
